The Senior Domain Architect is responsible for the architecture of multiple value streams within and/or across multiple lines of business. Senior Domain Architects engage with the business to understand and align to the enterprise vision. They collaborate with architecture stakeholders to define the appropriate architecture leveraging the Enterprise Architecture vision. The Senior Domain Architect leads and influences other architects to ensure designs are developed according to methods and standards in place.
Position will follow our hybrid schedule: Monday-Wednesday in Grand Rapids MI corporate office, Thursday-Friday remote.


What You'll Be Doing:

  • Develop and ensure compliance with architecture principles and standards for the various systems and components based on enterprise strategies, reference architectures, and design patterns.
  • Create and maintain strategic business capability roadmaps, linking IT systems and services to the capabilities they enable in conjunction with business stakeholders.
  • Design, implement and sustain strategic business capability roadmaps that align software solutions with business requirements.
  • Leverage your expertise in software architecture to ensure that roadmaps are not only robust and reliable, but also flexible and adaptable to accommodate future growth and changes in the business landscape.
  • Contribute to architectural decision records that guide solution development, standardization, reuse, simplification, and consistency across domains.
  • Define, develop, implement, and communicate architecture runways that guide solution development, standardization, reuse, simplification, and consistency across domains.
  • Envision and advocate for domain objectives across domain, platform, and enterprise architects to align with business priorities
  • Evaluates architectural options and defines overall architecture of the system, ensuring commonality across systems.
  • Defines and evolves reference architectures for AI & Automation workloads on the Microsoft Azure stack - including Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) at scale, agentic and multi-agent orchestration, Model Context Protocol (MCP) tool integration, and Microsoft Copilot Studio - ensuring alignment with Enterprise Architecture and security standards.
  • Guides LLMOps and responsible AI practices across domains - including evaluation harnesses, guardrails and content safety, model routing and fallback, PTU/quota capacity planning, and cost optimization - and leads architectural reviews of AI/GenAI solutions prior to production deployment.
  • Defines non-functional requirements including performance monitoring, alerting and code management, ensuring alignment with technology best practices and SLAs.
  • Collaborates with enterprise architecture to identify gaps in solutions and ensure alignment.
  • Guides architects and teams to align with enterprise strategy and vision through technical and business leadership.
  • Determines major elements and subsystems and defines interfaces as well as architectural runway.
  • Leads and prioritizes the architectural runway for the solution trains
  • Interfaces with the Product Ownerand IT partners at the Program level to define and estimate features for agile teams.
  • Works within the SAFe Agile framework and employs ITIL best practices.
  • Create conceptual and logical domain design diagrams
  • Work to create a multiple year domain strategic roadmap.
  • Define standards definitions and reference models for the specific domain.
  • Establish domain architecture governance and compliance for the specific domain.

What You'll Bring With You:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Business Information Systems, Engineering or related discipline or equivalent work experience and technical training is required.
  • Any SAFe certification (SSM, SASM, SA, SPC, SPMPO)
  • ITIL Foundations certification
  • 10+ years' experience in business application design, development, implementation, and/or solution architecture.
  • Knowledge of project management techniques is required (cross-functional experience is highly desirable).
  • Experience with structured design, development, and implementation of new and established computing architectures.
  • Technical team leadership experience.
  • Experience in Scaled Agile framework is preferred.
  • Lead and understand bridge between the many disparate efforts related to the architectural impact of changes to systems.
  • Serve as a guide able to navigate the full domain lifecycle to assist IT teams and business users.
  • Lead and prioritize architecture direction for lines of business.
  • Drive technical debt reduction, application/platform security, and compliance awareness.
  • Self-driven research of technologies and processes
  • Evaluate and guide technical proof of concepts.
  • Ensure documentation for the domain is up to date and complete, adhering to Enterprise Architecture standards.
  • Understand technology solutions across the organization.

  • Experience with multiple, diverse technical configurations, technologies, and processing environments.
  • Enterprise-scale experience architecting AI or GenAI solutions on the Microsoft Azure stack (Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, AKS, Azure Functions, Azure DevOps), including RAG, agentic and multi-agent orchestration, Model Context Protocol (MCP), and LLM evaluation frameworks, is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of LLMOps, responsible AI governance (model risk, content safety, data privacy), and cost/capacity management (PTUs, quotas, model routing) for production AI platforms is preferred.
  • Experience guiding teams through AI-assisted and spec-driven development, context/prompt engineering standards, and evaluating GenAI frameworks such as LangChain/LangGraph, Semantic Kernel, or AutoGen is preferred.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation, and negotiation.
  • Knowledge of all components of a technical architecture.
  • Strong understanding of network architecture.
  • Ability to understand the long-term ("big picture") and short-term perspectives of situations.
  • Translates business needs into technical architecture requirements.
  • Communicates IT requirements and guidelines to vendor partners.
  • Estimates financial impact of technical architecture alternatives.
