Salary Rangeย 

  • Sr. Engineer:ย $108,000 โ€“ย $123,000ย 
  • Sr. Engineer II:ย $125,000 โ€“ย $137,000ย 

ย Overviewย 

The Senior Market Services Engineer roles (Sr. Engineer and Sr. Engineer II) ensure the accuracy and integrity of the data supporting Congestion Rent, Greenhouse Gas (GHG), Market Transmission Use (MTU), and Western Resource Adequacy Program (WRAP) operations in SPP Markets+. These positions translate business and regulatory requirements into application criteria andย validateย system releases. Both roles also support organizational credibility throughย accurateย communication with internal teams and external stakeholders.ย 

ย Core Responsibilitiesย 

  • Analyze and report on Congestion Rent, GHG, MTU, and WRAP operationsย 
  • Coordinate with Markets+ Transmission Service Providers and Market Participants to verify Transmission Service Reservations for accurate CRT representationย 
  • Support and maintain GHG tracking and reporting processes, including responding to RMS ticketsย 
  • Support annual and intrayear MTU updatesย 
  • Translate governing document language into application requirements and support testing of releasesย 
  • Test application functionality and identify/correct data issuesย 
  • Create and maintain internal process and procedure documentation
  • Create and maintain requirements documentation for primary applicationsย 
    ย 
  • Provide analytical insights and engage with stakeholder groupsย 
    ย 
  • Coordinate market design changes and technical implementation across Markets+ย 
    ย 
  • Prepare and deliver technical documentation, presentations, and analysesย 
    ย 
  • Apply organized wholesale market rules to business functionsย 
    ย 
  • Facilitate market design changes through the SPP stakeholder processย 

ย Qualificationsย 

Education Requirement (All Levels)ย 

Bachelorโ€™s Degree of Science in Engineering, this degree should: Be from a university that meets the requirements to sit for the Professional Engineering exam (in Arkansas, that isย most typically a degree from an ABET accredited university or a graduate degree from a college that has an ABET accreditation). Degree should be in a calculus-based engineeringย fieldย and preferred degree programs are Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Systems Engineeringย 

Qualifications by Levelย 

Sr. Engineerย 
โ€ข 5 years of relevant Engineering experience, Professional Engineer License may satisfy one year of experience requirement.ย 

Sr. Engineer IIย 
โ€ข9 years of relevant Engineering experience; Professional Engineer License or Advanced degree in related field of study may satisfy one (1) year of experience requirement. Two (2) years of experience may satisfy both a Professional Engineer License and an Advanced degree in a related field.ย 

ย Sr Engineerย Preferred Qualificationsย ย 

  • Experience in power operations or market design inย the Westernย Interconnection.ย 
  • Experience in reserving and scheduling transmission serviceย 
  • Advanced degree in economics,ย mathย or other related field of studyย 
  • Experience in utility operations, RTOย operationsย or energy tradingย 
  • Experience with data manipulation and analysis of large data setsย 
  • Sound understanding of the SPP Open Access Transmission Tariff, FERC & NERC governing documents, SPP By-Laws, SPP Criteria and the SPP Committee structureย 

ย Sr Engineer II Preferredย Qualificationsย 

  • A Professional Engineer Licenseย 
  • Advanced degree in related field of studyย 
  • Electric Utility Industry experienceย 
  • Proficient with most SPP power systems analysis tools with a solid command of several SPP tools and/or processesย 
  • Sound understanding of the SPP Open Access Transmission Tariff, FERC & NERC governing documents, SPP By-Laws, SPP Criteria and the SPP Committee structureย 

ย Other Requirementsย 

  • Competentย with the administrative and communication tools for word processing, spread sheet development and time keeping, as a minimumย 
  • Strong knowledge of several power systems analysis tools applicable to power system steady state, dynamic, short circuit, or database management systemsย 
  • Strongย inter-personalย andย team workย skills along with good written and verbal communication skillsย 
  • Excellent working skills with communication and data handling software such as Microsoft Officeยฉ Word, Excel, Accessย 
  • Proficient at organizing and conducting technical and analytical studiesย
