Position Overview

System One is seeking a Test Engineer to support the development, planning, execution, and reporting of complex engineering test programs for advanced mechanical systems. This role is ideal for an engineer with experience in research and development (R&D), mechanical testing, and experimental validation who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges in a collaborative environment.

The selected candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, designers, technicians, and project stakeholders to develop innovative test solutions, execute test campaigns, analyze results, and deliver high-quality technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and develop test requirements and engineering test plans.
  • Author test design documents, procedures, reports, and supporting technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to translate conceptual requirements into detailed test specifications, instrumentation strategies, and acceptance criteria.
  • Define, select, and validate measurement instrumentation, including load cells, LVDTs, strain gauges, encoders, RTDs, thermocouples, and other sensors.
  • Coordinate fixture design, laboratory setup, control system integration, and testing activities with cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Plan, manage, and execute test campaigns from concept through completion, including setup, commissioning, validation, execution, and post-test analysis.
  • Analyze test data and prepare comprehensive engineering reports.
  • Support safe execution of testing activities, including occasional work at elevated heights (typically under 60 feet).
  • Assist with commissioning and operation of experimental equipment.
  • Promote continuous improvement and engineering best practices throughout the testing process.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in testing, research and development, product development, or engineering validation.
  • Experience developing and executing engineering tests.
  • Experience with post-processing, analyzing, and documenting experimental data.
  • Experience supporting one or more of the following:
    • Research & Development (R&D)
    • Acceptance Testing
    • Validation Testing
    • Qualification Testing
  • Practical understanding of:
    • Structural and mechanical testing
    • Static and dynamic loading
    • Force and displacement measurement
    • Strain and vibration testing
    • Linear motion systems
  • Experience supporting large, complex mechanical systems.
  • Strong analytical, technical writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple engineering priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work in a collaborative engineering environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and engineering excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with strain gauges, vibration testing, environmental testing, and structural testing.
  • Familiarity with dimensional inspection technologies including Faro Trackers and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).
  • Experience using engineering software such as:
    • LabVIEW
    • SolidWorks
    • Jira
    • Confluence
    • Microsoft Office 365
  • Experience working in nuclear, aerospace, defense, energy, or other highly regulated engineering environments.
  • Experience supporting first-of-a-kind products or prototype development.
