What are Remote Sea Ray Boats?

Remote Sea Ray Boats refer to Sea Ray brand boats that can be monitored, controlled, or managed remotely using advanced technology. These boats are equipped with systems that allow owners or operators to check the boat's status, location, and even control certain functions from a distance, often via mobile apps or web platforms. This technology enhances convenience, safety, and security for boat owners, particularly those who may not always be physically present at the marina or dock. Remote management can include features like engine diagnostics, battery monitoring, and GPS tracking. Sea Ray, a well-known manufacturer of luxury boats, has been integrating these smart technologies into their newer models.

Job description

Role: Autonomous Surface Vessel (ASV) Field Service Representative

Location: United States (San Diego, CA preferred)

Salary: $75,000 base, travel bonuses ranging from $20,000-$40,000/yr + stock options, 401k matching, and other benefits

Role Overview:
Seasats is deploying autonomous surface vehicles (AKA ASVs or robotic boats) around the world. To keep this fleet operating smoothly and effectively, we're adding to our growing team of full-time field operators. Missions have taken them to every continent except Antarctica (so far).

If you join in this role, you'll learn from our existing team of experts, work alongside military and civilian sailors and technology professionals, and become a highly skilled part of the fleet of the future. You'll work odd hours, travel around the world, and experience both the stress and the rewards of being at the cutting edge of an industry revolution.

Role Details:

Specific tasks could include:

  • Completing deployments of up to two continuous months at Navy bases and other sites around the world
  • Interfacing with Navy, Coast Guard, and other personnel, and passing on key information to the San Diego team
  • Launching and recovering ASVs
  • Remotely monitoring and controlling ASVs via a computer or phone during missions
  • Sharing bugs and feature requests with the San Diego development team to improve operations
  • Using electronic devices and maps to plan missions, taking into account weather and other variables
  • Traveling regularly to San Diego to learn about new vehicle features and maintenance/operations procedures
  • Completing contracting requirements such as daily status updates via Slack, email, or Signal
  • Occasional nighttime operations

    About You:

If you're someone who likes traveling a lot, doing a job well, working with a kickass team, tinkering with technology, being around the ocean, and interacting with new people, this could be a dream job for you. If you have a tendency to get frustrated with technology, smash your keyboard, throw things, or swear loudly and angrily when things go wrong, this job is not for you. If you have serious commitments to a fixed geographic location, this would also be a poor fit.

    You'll need to be:

    • Responsible and good humored
    • Comfortable working under pressure, teaching people, and responding rapidly and decisively to new information
    • An effective written and verbal communicator in all sorts of settings
    • Able to work well with others, take orders, or operate independently as needed
    • Excited to travel to new parts of the world for extended periods of time
    • A quick learner and a patient troubleshooter
    • Happy working with laptops, tablets, phones, and other technology
    • Able to manage time well, but comfortable working long hours and willing to stick around until the job is done
    • Handy with hand tools and basic wrenching, screw drivers, etc.
    • Safety conscious
    • Resourceful, confident, and capable enough to get the job done even if plan A goes south
    • Ready to do strenuous physical activity and handle heavy equipment in all sorts of weather conditions
    • In possession of a valid drivers license with no restrictions and comfortable driving in unfamiliar locations
    • Able to obtain a security clearance

In addition, it's nice (though not essential) for you to have:

    • Experience on the ocean or around boats (strong plus)
    • Experience driving small boats
    • Experience driving autonomous boats
    • Prior military service
    • Experience working with kids or teaching
    • Skill with RC vehicles and/or video games
    • Familiarity with basic networking, electronics, or software troubleshooting
    • Experience driving a forklift
    • Experience with Word, Excel, and/or PowerPoint

We'd love it if you lived in San Diego, but given the highly remote nature of this position it's not required. There will be a 2-4 week ramp up period where you'll be required to stay in San Diego getting familiar with our team, products, and culture, and after that you could expect to spend an additional 4-6 weeks per year in San Diego throughout a typical work year.

This position will require you to travel away from home and even outside the US for long periods of time. There are related perks: for every week you're away from home you'll earn vacation allowances and travel bonuses. Seasats also provides a travel stipend while you're on the road, so you can expect to save money while on work trips.

    About Seasats:

At Seasats, we're passionate about delivering maritime robotics solutions to redefine the maritime industry. Our primary products are autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs), designed to carry sensors at sea for months at a time. Our ASVs provide persistent monitoring and data acquisition to defense, scientific, and commercial customers, and have autonomously crossed both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. After thousands of years in which the only way to gather information from the ocean was to put people on a boat, these uncrewed vessels are transforming how humanity monitors and interacts with the ocean. Here, you'll find the space and opportunity to do your life's best work.

Along with your salary, you'll receive perks including:

    • Competitive insurance (including a 99% employer-covered Gold HMO plan or other options)
    • 401k matching up to 4% of salary
    • Four free lunches per week
    • An employee activity fund
    • A pet-friendly office
    • Unlimited/Flex PTO

    Hiring Notes:

When applying, you'll be asked to provide a resume and answer a few screening questions.

Please note that we are currently unable to sponsor employment visas, so candidates must be independently authorized to work in the United States.

We appreciate diverse perspectives and life experiences, and we're committed to building a team that reflects a wide range of backgrounds. Seasats provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination of any type based on race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, or gender identity), national origin, age, disability, genetic information, marital status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected under federal, state, or local law.
