Job description

The Scrum Master is responsible for enabling high-performing, self-organizing delivery pods through disciplined Agile practice, relentless impediment removal, and transparent delivery reporting. This role serves as the execution heartbeat of the pod - ensuring ceremonies are effective, the team is unblocked, and delivery data is actionable.

The Scrum Master operates within a defined accountability structure: the Product Owner (PO) owns WHAT is built and WHY, while the Delivery Manager owns HOW FAST and HOW WELL across all pods. The Scrum Master owns HOW the team executes day-to-day within the sprint, partnering closely with both roles without encroaching on backlog ownership or cross-pod resource decisions.

When capacity permits, this role contributes to business analysis activities - supporting the PO in requirements refinement, acceptance criteria definition, and user story decomposition - but does not own the backlog or stakeholder alignment.

Requirements

Agile Facilitation & Ceremony Ownership

  • Facilitate all Scrum ceremonies: Sprint Planning, Daily Standup, Backlog Refinement, Sprint Review, and Retrospective.
  • Ensure ceremonies are purposeful, time-boxed, and produce actionable outcomes.
  • Maintain sprint cadence and drive consistent Agile practices aligned to Delivery Manager standards.
  • Manage and groom the ADO (Azure DevOps) sprint board; ensure work items are accurate, linked, and up-to-date.

Delivery Impediment Removal

  • Identify, escalate, and actively drive resolution of blockers impeding team progress.
  • Escalate cross-pod dependencies and resource constraints to the Delivery Manager promptly.
  • Protect the team from scope creep and unplanned work introduced mid-sprint.
  • Coordinate with DevOps and engineering leads on CI/CD pipeline issues in GitHub affecting sprint delivery.

Metrics, Reporting & Delivery Transparency

  • Own sprint-level metrics: velocity, burndown, cycle time, and defect rates.
  • Provide the Delivery Manager with accurate, timely delivery health data for cross-pod reporting.
  • Maintain ADO dashboards and ensure sprint data integrity across all workstreams (Salesforce, .NET/C#, React).
  • Proactively flag risks and capacity concerns before they impact delivery commitments.

Team Health & Continuous Improvement

  • Champion a culture of psychological safety, accountability, and continuous learning within the pod.
  • Lead retrospectives that produce measurable process improvements each sprint.
  • Coach team members on Agile principles, self-organization, and professional delivery practices.
  • Partner with the Delivery Manager to standardize practices across pods.

Business Analysis Support (Capacity-Dependent)

The following duties are performed in collaboration with Product Owners when sprint capacity allows and do not supersede primary Scrum Master responsibilities:

  • Decompose epics and features into sprint-ready user stories with clear acceptance criteria.
  • Document business rules, workflow diagrams, and process flows for complex domain functionality (Salesforce Apex, .NET integrations, React UI).
  • Conduct basic gap analysis and requirements traceability to support testing and validation activities.
  • Collaborate with QA to validate that delivered functionality meets defined acceptance criteria.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience as a Scrum Master or Agile team lead in a software delivery environment.
  • Hands-on proficiency with Azure DevOps (ADO) for sprint management, backlog tracking, and reporting.
  • Working knowledge of GitHub for source control and CI/CD workflows.
  • Exposure to or experience leading scrum for one or more of the following: Salesforce/Apex, .NET 8+ / C#, or React-based frontend development.
  • Strong facilitation, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to communicate delivery health clearly to both technical teams and business stakeholders.

Preferred

  • CSM, PSM I/II, or SAFe Scrum Master certification.
  • CBAP or equivalent business analysis certification or coursework.
  • Experience in healthcare, SaaS, or enterprise technology environments.
  • Familiarity with EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) principles.
  • Experience supporting or shadowing a Product Owner in requirements elicitation activities.

Work From Home Requirements

The employee must provide reliable, high-speed internet (25/25 Mbps minimum) and a private workspace suitable for professional work.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in a home office setting using company-provided equipment. Duties include sitting, speaking, and using hands for computer work. Occasional standing and walking may be required. Reasonable accommodations may be made.
