PGL Environmental Consultants are seeking a Senior Environmental Consultant to be based out of our Calgary, AB, office. PGL employees work a 37.5-hour work week, and all employees have the flexibility to work from home or office as and when needed.
The Senior Environmental Consultantis involved with the planning, management and execution of contaminated site projects at a senior level. They will work on project teams that include junior and intermediate staff with technical specialists, when required. Projects will vary and can include any of the following: Phase 1 and Phase 2 environmental site assessments, contaminated site investigation and remediation, hydrogeology investigations, monitoring programs, and reporting for due diligence or regulatory instruments. Some field work may be required, generally connected with large, complex, difficult or remote sites, or for training of staff.
In addition to managing projects and providing technical direction, it is expected that senior project staff mentor project staff. This person will also be comfortable interacting with clients. Participation in business development and marketing activities will include proposals, work plans, presentations, attending networking events and seminars, as well as building relationships with clients they are working with. An interest in greater involvement in business development and marketing is an asset.
Responsibilities:
  • Conducts all levels of contaminated site investigations including Phase 1 and Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessments, Remediation, Risk Assessments, including field work appropriate to level of experience; generally able to manage all aspects of the project with senior technical support and review available; manages all phases of projects, from development of work plans and cost estimates to managing field work and budgets and final report production;
  • Advises and liaises with clients on a broad range of technical issues related to contaminated site investigation;
  • Business development; building your network and strengthening relationships within the industry to attract and retain clients;
  • Provides technical direction and mentoring to junior staff;
  • Conducts technical review of projects;
  • Contributes to the development of internal protocols and procedures.
Job Requirements:
  • Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Geology, Geography, Soil Science, Environmental Science, Engineering (chemical, geological, geotechnical, environmental), related engineering discipline or Toxicology.
  • The ability to register for a professional designation (P.Eng., P.Ag. or P.Geo.)
  • 10+ years of environmental consulting experience in Alberta.
  • A demonstrated working knowledge of and ability to interpret relevant Alberta and Canadian environmental regulations, guidelines and standards.
  • Experience working in a consulting engineering environment at a project management level.
  • Experience in contaminated site investigation, including field methods for characterization of soil and groundwater conditions and/or contamination (borehole drilling, monitoring well design/installation, and multimedia sampling methodologies).
  • Experience developing and administering project budgets.
  • Strong technical writing skills and strong attention to details.
  • Experience with work plan or proposal writing.
  • Excellent internal and external client service skills.
  • Excellent client relationship management and team management skills.
