Job description

Meet Instinct

Instinct Science is at the forefront of veterinary innovation, comprised of world-class tools that have served our industry for decades: easy-to-use veterinary practice software (Instinct EMR), an essential resource for expanding your knowledge and skills (Clinician's Brief), clinical and pharmaceutical decision support (Standards of Care & Plumb's), and an AI scribing platform (ScribbleVet). Combined, Instinct Science offers an ecosystem that veterinarians rely on for every aspect and stage of their careers.

At Instinct Science, we believe in leading with compassion. Our team, our customers, and their patients and clients are the foundation of everything we do. Our culture is guided by our U.C.A.R.E. values: We move fast because our mission matters, we put customers at the center of every decision, and we treat each other with kindness and high standards.

A Sneak Peek of Your Role

This is a fully remote role.

Are you a boarded veterinary specialist who loves to write? Do you find yourself energized by the challenge of explaining complex clinical topics with clarity, depth, and precision, all with an eye toward unique case scenarios? Are you at a point in your career in which it’s time to do something … different?
Instinct Science is looking for a board-certified Emergency and Critical Care specialist to join our Standards of Care team as a full-time writer. In this unique role, you'll produce high-impact, in-depth clinical monographs (10,000–15,000 words each) that guide day-to-day decision-making in veterinary practice. You’ll be working side by side with other specialists and general practitioners who share your obsession with quality, clarity, and evidence-driven medicine.

If your idea of a great day is deep research, thoughtful writing, and refining your work through feedback, this might be your dream job.

Why Consider This Role?

  • You’ll make a meaningful mark: This is a chance to co-create the most comprehensive, trusted clinical decision tool in veterinary medicine.
  • You’ll work with exceptional people: Our team includes some of the most intelligent minds and compassionate hearts in the profession.
  • You’ll improve as a clinician and a writer: Writing this deeply, this consistently, will sharpen every skill you have—and we’ll support you every step of the way.

What You'll Do

  • Research, write, and revise 5-6 high-quality clinical monographs per month (targeting 60+ over the term)
  • Collaborate closely with our team of veterinarians, editors, and reviewers to refine and elevate each piece
  • Respond to detailed peer reviewer feedback and editorial input with professionalism and precision
  • Work with our content team to shape the future of Standards of Care and raise the bar for clinical writing in veterinary medicine

Who You Are

Must Haves:

  • DVM, VMD, or equivalent, plus diplomate status from the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ACVECC)
  • 5+ years of clinical experience, with a preference for both specialty and general practice experience.
  • Proven experience in medical content development and review.
  • Strong understanding of peer-reviewed publishing and content production processes.
  • Proficiency with medical content management systems and digital tools.

Preferred:

  • Prior publishing or teaching experience
  • Proven experience in medical content development and review
  • Strong understanding of peer-reviewed publishing and content production processes
  • Proficiency with medical content management systems and digital tools

How Instinct will Care about YOU

  • We offer a supportive and caring work environment.
  • We are transparent, open, honest, and empathic, both internally and externally.
  • We pay our team well.
  • We offer medical, dental and vision benefits and 401K with match.
  • We give our team owner-like flexibility over work and time-off, including time to innovate and Flow State Fridays.
  • We offer a generous stipend that can be used for almost anything to allow you to bring your best self to work.
  • We provide all-expense-paid time throughout the year together, including at our annual retreat.

The compensation range for this role is $165,000 - $185,000. Actual compensation will be determined through a variety of factors including the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience.

Instinct is an equal opportunity employer committed to equality and providing a pleasant work environment free from harassment or discrimination in any form. All employees will be treated equally without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, family or parental status, national origin, ancestry, veteran, or disability status.
