Job description

The Organization:

Vequity is an M&A intelligence platform. Investment firms use it to make better acquisition decisions — about their own strategy, their portfolio companies, and the deals in front of them. It works because those firms contribute what they're looking for and get intelligence and better-matched deal flow back in return. Revenue today comes from buy-side sourcing engagements and finder's fee arrangements, and building the network of investment firms actively contributing to and using the platform is the strategic priority behind this hire.

The Position:

Vequity is hiring a Business Development role to bring private equity firms, family offices, and strategic acquirers onto the platform — and to keep them engaged once they're there. This isn't a traditional enterprise sales role: there's no cost for a firm to get started, so a strong discovery call can end with a firm signed up and active the same day. The job is to have a high volume of the right conversations, capture what each firm is looking for in real detail, and make sure they keep coming back.

Candidates come to this role from M&A rather than general technology sales — credibility with a partner or principal is the whole premise of the hire. Seniority of placement is shaped by the strength of network and experience each candidate brings, rather than fixed to a single title.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and activate a pipeline of investment firms, combining your own relationships with outbound to a curated target list and established outreach sequences
  • Run consultative discovery calls where the buyer does most of the talking, and know which thread to follow up on
  • Capture acquisition criteria at two levels — what the firm itself is hunting for, and what each of its portfolio companies needs in an add-on
  • Drive firm profiles to full validation; a complete, verified profile is the unit of success, not just a signup
  • Own the account through adoption — firms don't get handed off after signup, you're responsible for keeping them active and their information current
  • Keep CRM records accurate and current — the data you capture is the product

Qualifications:

  • M&A background: investment banking, private equity business development or origination, buy-side advisory, transaction advisory, corporate development, or a comparable role at an M&A data or technology platform
  • Relationships across private equity firms, family offices, and/or strategic acquirers that can be activated early — breadth and depth scale with seniority of placement
  • Genuine outbound business development ability, not purely inbound or relationship-farming
  • Fluency in deal vocabulary — platform vs. add-on, control vs. minority, buy-and-build, equity roll, independent sponsors
  • Comfort with high conversation volume and a fully remote, low-supervision operating model
  • CRM discipline — treats accurate data capture as core to the job, not an administrative afterthought
  • Nice to have: experience selling a data, software, or information product into private equity; relationships with corporate development teams at strategic acquirers; sector depth in industrials, business services, healthcare services, or other buy-and-build heavy verticals

Salary & Benefits:

  • Competitive compensation
  • Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance
  • 401(k) with company contribution
  • Life Insurance
  • Disability Coverage
  • PTO & Paid Holidays
  • Fully remote, US-based; no travel required
