Job description

Overnight In-Home Pet Sitter (Boulder County & Surrounding Areas) - please read entire job description before applying.

Your Pet Staycations is a premium in-home pet care company providing calm, reliable overnight care for pets in their own homes while their humans are away.

We are hiring Overnight Pet Sitters to join a small, trusted care team. This role is designed as supplemental income and is best suited for responsible, grounded adults who genuinely enjoy caring for animals and are available to consistently take on work.

This role is a good fit for:

  • Remote workers or freelancers with flexible schedules

  • Graduate students with daytime flexibility

  • Retired or semi-retired individuals

  • People with steady income seeking meaningful supplemental work

What This Role Actually Involves

This is true overnight in-home pet sitting.

Sitters are expected to:

  • Stay overnight in clients’ homes

  • Sleep in the home with the pets during the duration of the booking

  • Maintain pets’ routines and provide companionship, structure, and attentive care

Many bookings occur during client vacations and may last several consecutive days or even 1–2+ weeks.

During those bookings, sitters are expected to:

  • Remain overnight in the home each evening

  • Provide morning and evening care routines

  • Return to the home for potty breaks/check-ins approximately every ~4 hours throughout the day

This ~4 hour care standard is one of the core ways we differentiate ourselves and a major reason clients choose our services.

This role is best suited for individuals with highly flexible daytime schedules who can structure their day around returning to the home for pet care check-ins throughout the day.

This is why the role tends to work especially well for remote workers, freelancers, retirees, graduate students with flexible schedules, and other individuals with significant daytime flexibility.

This role is not compatible with traditional out-of-home 9–5 schedules.

This role is flexible in structure, but it also comes with real responsibility and high standards of care.

Service Area (Required)

Sitters must be willing to take sits throughout:

  • Superior

  • Lafayette

  • Boulder

  • Erie

  • All of Boulder County

Additional preferred service areas include:

  • Arvada

  • Golden

  • LoHi / Highlands Denver

  • Wheat Ridge

  • Surrounding areas within this range

Distance bonuses may apply for farther sits.

What the Role Involves

  • Staying overnight in clients’ homes

  • Providing morning, evening, overnight, and midday care

  • Ensuring pets potty before leaving for longer absence windows

  • Following detailed care instructions and routines

  • Feeding, walks, medications (when applicable), enrichment, and companionship

  • Maintaining a clean, respectful presence in client homes

  • Sending daily updates, photos, and notes using company apps/tools

  • Communicating clearly and professionally

Scheduling Expectations & Participation

We currently operate with two levels of sitter involvement:

Core Team (Primary Sitters)

Reliable, ongoing team members actively engaged in the business.

Expectations:

  • Consistent availability

  • Regularly accepting sits

  • 2–4+ sits/month during busy seasons

  • Weekend & holiday availability required

Flex Team (Seasonal / Limited Availability)

Additional support for busy periods or temporary availability.

Expectations:

  • Accept work when available

  • No guaranteed volume of sits

  • Support overflow and high-demand periods

This role is not structured as casual, last-minute gig work.

While sitters may decline individual jobs, consistent participation and timely responsiveness are expected as part of a reliable care team.

Last-minute requests do happen and same-day responses are required—even if simply declining the request.

The most responsive and engaged sitters tend to receive the most opportunities.

Commitment Requirement

This position requires a minimum 6-month commitment of active availability for those interested in Core-Team and 3-month commitment of active availability for the Flex-Team.

Paid Training is provided as part of onboarding and includes a required online, in-house Pet Sitting/Dog Walking Certification program.

This training is a significant investment covered by the company and includes:

  • Safety protocols

  • Pet behavior

  • Emergency procedures

  • Professional standards of care

Important Standards & Policies

  • Pets are generally not left longer than ~4 hours

  • Sitters must ensure pets have pottied before leaving

  • No guests are ever allowed in client homes — no exceptions

  • Sitters are expected to use required company apps/tools

  • Professionalism, communication, and reliability are essential

Requirements

  • Genuine love for animals, especially dogs and cats

  • Comfortable caring for other small animals when needed

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle

  • Smartphone capable of using apps and technology

  • Strong communication and follow-through

  • Comfortable staying overnight in client homes

  • Ability to safely manage dogs of varying sizes and energy levels

  • Previous pet care experience is a plus

Compensation & Work Environment

  • Competitive overnight pay

  • Paid meet & greets

  • Paid training

  • Distance bonuses for select areas

We believe in paying people fairly, treating them with respect, and building a team that takes the work seriously.

We are looking for people who value that same level of responsibility, communication, professionalism, and care.

How to Apply

Please apply with:

  • A brief letter including:

    • Your location

    • General availability

    • Pet care experience

    • Why this role feels like a good fit for you

  • A current resume and/or CV outlining your work experience and highlighting any relevant experience with:

    • Pet sitting

    • Dog walking

    • Animal care

    • Veterinary, shelter, or rescue work
