Location: Full-Time Remote (Contiguous U.S.)

Base Salary: $110,000 โ€“ $150,000 (DOE)

About the Opportunity
An advanced nuclear technology organization is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and development of remote handling systems, reactor servicing tools, and automated inspection equipment used during reactor refueling operations.
This role focuses on mechanical handling systems, robotics/automation integration, and tooling design within a highly regulated nuclear environment. The ideal candidate will bring strong mechanical design experience, cross-functional collaboration skills, and a commitment to nuclear safety and quality standards.

Job Duties
โ€ข Design and develop reactor servicing tools, remote handling equipment, and inspection systems.
โ€ข Prepare and review engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
โ€ข Collaborate with component design, civil/structural, systems engineering, and operations teams to ensure interface and performance requirements are met.
โ€ข Develop integrated handling plans and work sequences for refueling operations.
โ€ข Support procurement, fabrication oversight, vendor coordination, and equipment testing activities.
โ€ข Ensure compliance with nuclear quality standards (10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, NQA-1).
โ€ข Provide innovative solutions to complex mechanical design and automation challenges.
โ€ข Manage technical scope, schedules, and engineering deliverables.

Qualifications
โ€ข B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, or Nuclear Engineering (ABET preferred).
โ€ข 5+ years of professional engineering experience in mechanical system design.
โ€ข Experience designing mechanical handling equipment, tooling systems, or automated machinery.
โ€ข Experience preparing and reviewing engineering calculations and design documentation.
โ€ข Nuclear industry experience strongly preferred.
โ€ข PE license preferred.
โ€ข Must be eligible to work under DOE 10 CFR Part 810.
