Job description

Location: Remote (U.S.) or Arvada, CO (Hybrid/On-Site Available)
Job Type: Full-Time

About the Role

We're seeking an experienced Senior UNIX Systems Administrator with deep expertise in commercial UNIX environments, specifically AIX, HP-UX, and Solaris.

This is not a Linux administration position with occasional UNIX work. We're looking for a true UNIX expert who enjoys solving complex production issues, supporting enterprise customers, and working with technologies that many organizations still rely on for mission-critical operations.

You'll work directly with customers to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve challenging infrastructure issues involving operating systems, storage, clustering, networking, virtualization, and performance optimization.

If you're passionate about enterprise UNIX and enjoy tackling problems others can't solve, we'd love to hear from you.

Responsibilities
  • Resolve advanced UNIX infrastructure and operating system issues for enterprise customers
  • Troubleshoot complex storage, networking, performance, boot, and clustering problems
  • Support production environments running AIX, HP-UX, and Solaris
  • Implement solutions remotely and occasionally on-site
  • Participate in a low-frequency on-call rotation for critical customer escalations
  • Maintain and expand internal UNIX lab environments for testing and validation
  • Share technical expertise through quarterly webinars and knowledge sharing
  • Continuously learn and develop expertise across supported UNIX platforms
Required QualificationsCommercial UNIX Experience

Candidates must have strong hands-on production experience with at least two of the following platforms:

  • IBM AIX
  • HP-UX
  • Oracle Solaris

Experience supporting all three platforms is highly preferred.

Technical Expertise

Qualified candidates should demonstrate experience with many of the following:

  • Enterprise UNIX administration and troubleshooting
  • Logical Volume Manager (LVM)
  • Filesystem administration (JFS/JFS2, ZFS, VxVM, SVM)
  • High Availability clustering (PowerHA/HACMP, Serviceguard)
  • Shell scripting (ksh, sh, bash)
  • Performance tuning and diagnostics
  • Enterprise storage (SAN, Fibre Channel, multipathing)
  • NFS and SMB/CIFS administration
  • TCP/IP networking and troubleshooting
  • LDAP, Active Directory integration, PAM, and Kerberos
  • Patch management and security hardening
  • Operating system installation, upgrades, and disaster recovery
  • Boot process troubleshooting across enterprise UNIX platforms
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with any of the following is a plus:

  • PowerHA / HACMP
  • Serviceguard
  • Solaris Zones or Logical Domains (LDOMs)
  • NIM or Ignite-UX
  • Veritas Volume Manager
  • SPARC systems
  • IBM Power Systems
  • NetApp, EMC, Ceph, GPFS, or Lustre storage
  • Python, Perl, or Ruby automation
  • Legacy UNIX platforms such as Tru64 or IRIX
What We're Looking For

We're looking for a senior-level engineer who:

  • Has extensive production experience supporting enterprise UNIX environments
  • Can independently troubleshoot highly complex technical issues
  • Enjoys solving difficult infrastructure problems
  • Is comfortable working directly with customers
  • Thrives in a collaborative, highly technical team

This position is not intended for Linux administrators with limited exposure to AIX, Solaris, or HP-UX. Candidates should have substantial experience administering commercial UNIX operating systems in production environments.

Why Join Us?
  • Work alongside a team of highly experienced UNIX professionals
  • Support mission-critical enterprise environments
  • Access to a dedicated multi-platform UNIX lab
  • Remote flexibility within the United States
  • Opportunities to continue expanding your UNIX expertise
  • High-impact work with a wide variety of enterprise customers
Benefits
  • Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) with employer contributions
  • Employer-funded Life Insurance
  • 401(k) with employer contributions
  • Employee Ownership Program
  • Unlimited Paid Time Off
  • Paid Company Holidays
  • Flexible work environment (Remote, Hybrid, or On-Site)
Apply Today

If you're an experienced UNIX administrator with expertise in AIX, HP-UX, Solaris, or multiple commercial UNIX platforms, we'd like to speak with you.
