Lightyear

Manhattan, NY • Remote

$120K - $150K/yr

Job description

The Company: Lightyear builds software that is revolutionizing the telecom management experience for hundreds of enterprises. Lightyear's platform helps enterprise IT teams automate telecom procurement, network inventory management, telecom bill payment, and much more, and is utilized by companies including Honeywell, Alo Yoga, Palo Alto Networks, and Louis Vuitton. Lightyear has raised nearly $65M from the first investors in Roblox, Discord, Coupang, Robinhood, and Flexport.
The Position: As a Product Designer at Lightyear, you will work directly with our Head of Product Design to ship product features across our platform while flexing into marketing and brand work as needed. You'll partner closely with PMs and engineers on day-to-day product work, and you'll contribute to and refine our design system in both Figma and our codebase. The role is roughly 85% product design and 15% marketing design support (web updates, ad creative, slide templates, event collateral, brand asset support).
We're an early stage company, so you'll have meaningful ownership over the work you ship. Our design team is small, our product surface is broad, and we move fast. You'll be the second designer on the team and the first design hire in years, which means you'll have real influence on how we work, what we ship, and what design looks like at Lightyear going forward.
This position will be full-time and salaried with competitive cash and equity compensation. The total cash compensation range is estimated to be within $120k-$150k.
This position is fully remote.
Responsibilities:

  • Ship product features end-to-end across established product areas, partnering with PMs and engineers from brief to launch
  • Run design reviews, give and receive critique, and iterate fast based on feedback from customers, PMs, and engineering
  • Contribute to and refine our design system in Figma, and open PRs directly in our codebase for design system updates (tokens, components, spacing fixes)
  • Flex into marketing design as needed: marketing site updates, LinkedIn and Reddit ad creative, slide deck templates, event collateral, and asset creation in support of internal teams
  • Use AI tooling (Claude, Cursor, v0, Figma AI, and whatever comes next) to accelerate ideation, research, prototyping, and asset creation across both product and marketing work
  • Help us figure out where AI sharpens design output and where it doesn't, and bring those learnings back to the team

Our ideal candidate:

  • 3 to 5 years of professional product design experience
  • B2B SaaS background. Fintech, devtools, vertical SaaS, or other workflow-heavy enterprise products are all strong fits
  • Mostly 1-to-N experience (improving and scaling existing product surfaces) with at least some 0-to-1 work in your portfolio
  • Visual range across product and brand. Your portfolio shows shipped marketing-adjacent work (landing pages, ad creative, decks, brand systems) alongside product UI. This often comes from a prior brand or visual design role, agency experience, or being the solo or founding designer at a small startup
  • AI is already part of how you work, not a thing you're planning to try. You use tools like Claude, Cursor, v0, and Figma AI to accelerate your workflow, and you have opinions on what's worth adopting versus what's noise
  • Code-fluent collaboration. You read frontend code comfortably and can make small, scoped changes directly (design system token updates, spacing tweaks, copy fixes) without needing an engineer to translate. You prototype in code when it's faster than Figma. You're not expected to ship production features, but you partner with engineering as a peer in technical conversations
  • High craft, low ego. You sweat the pixels and the tokens, and you're the first to spot what's off in your own work. You don't fall in love with v1. You actively seek critique, iterate fast, and treat shipped work as a starting point for the next round of improvements
  • Curious and stays at the edge of the field without chasing trends. You read, experiment, and form your own opinions on what's worth adopting
  • BA/BFA in Design (graphic, web, interaction, HCI, or related), or equivalent professional experience
  • Bonus: Familiarity with the telecom industry
