At NorthBay Health, the Director of Behavioral Health is responsible for the strategic, operational, financial, and clinical oversight of the behavioral health service line. This leader provides direction for behavioral health operations, integrated care models, program development, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and interdisciplinary team performance. The Director partners closely with medical leadership, primary care, specialty services, nursing, care management, hospital leaders and community agencies to ensure accessible, high-quality, patient-centered behavioral health services aligned with organizational goals.

The Director promotes evidence-based practices, integrated behavioral health delivery, operational excellence, workforce development, and equitable access to mental health and substance use disorder services across the continuum. The Director will ensure a collaborative approach to clinical and operational excellence optimizing service delivery while aligning with the organization's mission and strategic goals.

Compensation Structure

NorthBay Health uses a structured compensation framework. Staff-level positions use a step-based system (Steps 1-5) based on years of directly related experience, with Step 5 representing 20 or more years of experience in the role. Manager level and above positions are paid a fixed annual base salary and are eligible for a variable incentive compensation plan. Physician compensation is structured based on specialty and role requirements.

Education:  

  • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Nursing, Public Health, Business Administration, or related field required.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Current clinical licensure preferred, such as LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, Psychologist, RN, or equivalent behavioral health credential.

Experience:

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive leadership experience in behavioral health operations, outpatient services, or integrated healthcare delivery required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of management experience overseeing multidisciplinary behavioral health teams required.
  • Experience within a medical group, ambulatory care environment, or integrated health system preferred.
  • Experience with value-based care, population health, and integrated behavioral health models preferred

Skills:

  • Demonstrated expertise in healthcare operations, financial management, change management and strategic planning. Strong knowledge of care workflows, practice operations, revenue cycle, and regulatory requirements. Experience with dyad leadership models and collaborative leadership style. Demonstrated expertise in taking initiative, follow through, results- oriented and ability to work independently and collaboratively. Demonstrated effective project management skills. Must possess strong degree of organizational skills and demonstrated ability to deal with job-related stress, setting of priorities, coordination multiple projects and successful record of meeting deadlines.
