Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments to understand the unique emotional and psychological needs of elderly clients.
• Provide both individual and group counseling, implementing therapeutic techniques specifically designed for the geriatric population, addressing issues related to aging, life transitions, grief, and addiction.
• Develop and implement tailored care plans in collaboration with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, ensuring a holistic approach to each client's well-being.
• Educate family members and staff on effective strategies to support the emotional health of elderly clients, enhancing their quality of life through supportive practices.
• Facilitate grief and loss counseling for clients and their families navigating end-of-life issues, promoting healing and resilience.

Patient Population / Client Focus

This position primarily focuses on the geriatric population, providing much-needed emotional support during significant life changes, including loss, transition, and age-related challenges. Our clients often face complex emotional issues stemming from isolation, chronic illness, and bereavement. As a Mental Health Counselor at Riverbend, your role will be integral in guiding seniors toward healthier coping mechanisms and improved mental wellness.

Qualifications

• A Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field is required.
• Completion of all state-mandated licenses necessary for practice in mental health counseling.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills that facilitate an empathetic approach to client interactions.
• Ability to create a trusting environment that encourages clients to express their thoughts and feelings openly.

Preferred Experience

• A minimum of three years of direct experience in mental health counseling, with a focus on geriatric clients being highly preferred.
