The Hartfordseeks anAssistant Managing Attorney ("AMA")tojoin a dynamic teamwhichrepresents insureds,and The Hartforditselfat times,in workers compensation, commercial and personal auto, general liability, group benefits andsimilar matters, litigated and not, along with referrals fromotherlines of business. Ourstaff legaloffice appears in State and Federal courts,Arbitrations,and Workers CompensationtribunalsacrossIllinois, Indiana,Wisconsinand Minnesota.The AMA will overseeourpractice,assistas a leader in office-relatedmatters, handleClaims and clientrelationships,ensure adherence with corporate and departmental policies, and provide some file handling.

The selectedcandidate can expect toregularly collaborate with our claims partners tohelp achieve expectedbusiness outcomes, while also fosteringThe Hartford'sreputation of excellence in the legal community. In addition to helping to provide leadership for the staff counsel office, the AMA shall build and maintain partnerships withother staff legaloffice'smanagers, attorneys, support staff and claims partners, and partner with our larger organization on corporate initiatives, continuous learning efforts, andfacilitateprofessional development.

Key responsibilities of the position include:

  • Provideleadershipwithinthe staff counsel office, build andmaintaininternal and externalrelationships, provide oversight,auditand guidance on case handling at thefilelevel, and manage a personal caseload.

  • Corporate leadership responsibilities along with legal ethics responsibilities in connection with direct management of legal professionals.

  • Conduct suit analyses and frequent reviews of staff law office files; evaluate talent for performance cycles;seekto continuously improvekey performance indicators as decided upon by local or more senior leadership from time-to-time.

  • Compile and analyze data and statistics for preparation ofbusinessreports.

  • Identifyissuesofclient,claimor corporate implications.

  • Recruit, hire, develop andretainoutstanding legal staff and support staff.

  • Ensures adherence to all quality, customerserviceand litigation management standards; conducts local management file reviews.

  • Accountability for team compliance with litigation guidelines, substantive handling, and client along with customer service, as well as successful completion ofinitiativesas percriteria the organization at a given time promotes through internal and external survey and feedback.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 10yearsoflegal experience, includingwork in some,or all,ofthe followingstates:IL/IN/WI/MN.That experience is expected to include activelitigation and directfile-handlingin relevant areas of practice,including but not limited tosome combination of:WC, auto, general liability and other relevant lines of business.

  • Seekingcandidates with management experience (i.e., direct leadership, project oversight, training, coaching, and/or mentoring).

  • Member in good standingwith the Illinoisstateand federal generalbar.

  • Experience analyzing data to derive insights.

  • Demonstratedpresentation, communication,andtechnicalskills.

  • Proficiencywith MS Office, MS Teams, Excel, PowerPoint,CoPilotand/or similar models,and adaptable to learning new software platforms.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
