Remote Risk Management Attorney information

What does a remote risk management attorney do?

A Remote Risk Management Attorney is a legal professional who works remotely to help organizations identify, assess, and mitigate potential legal risks. They provide guidance on compliance, handle claims, advise on best practices, and help develop risk management policies, often in areas such as healthcare, insurance, or corporate governance. By working remotely, they utilize technology to communicate with clients, review documents, and provide legal advice without being physically present in the office.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote risk management attorney?

To thrive as a Remote Risk Management Attorney, you generally need a Juris Doctor (JD), active bar membership, and expertise in risk assessment, compliance, and legal research. Familiarity with legal practice management software, document management systems, and risk analysis tools is typically required. Outstanding written and verbal communication, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills help distinguish top performers in this role. These skills ensure effective identification, mitigation, and communication of legal risks while supporting organizational compliance and minimizing liability.

How does a remote risk management attorney typically collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders while working remotely?

A Remote Risk Management Attorney often collaborates closely with a variety of internal teams such as compliance, legal, operations, and executive leadership through virtual meetings, secure file sharing, and project management platforms. Externally, they may communicate with regulators, clients, and outside counsel via video conferencing, email, and secure portals to provide legal guidance on risk mitigation and regulatory compliance. Effective collaboration relies on clear communication, proactive updates, and strong organizational skills to ensure alignment across all parties, even when working from different locations. This remote structure allows attorneys to maintain flexibility while still being highly integrated into organizational decision-making processes.

The firm is seeking an experienced Employment Law Partner with 10+ years of employment law defense experience to join its growing team. This role is ideal for a senior attorney with deep expertise in school district and public entity defense, who enjoys a strategic mix of litigation, compliance counseling, and advisory work.

This fully remote role (California-based) offers meaningful autonomy, a reasonable billable hour expectation, and a manageable caseload-providing long-term stability without the demands of a traditional large-firm environment.

  • Represent clients in proceedings before administrative agencies such as the EEOC, labor boards, and state education authorities.

  • Manage all phases of litigation, including discovery, motion practice, and settlement negotiations, with a focus on public-sector employment law.

Strategic Counsel & Advisory Services
  • Advise school boards, superintendents, and HR leadership on compliance with Title IX, ADA, FMLA, and California employment laws.

  • Develop proactive legal strategies related to employee discipline, hiring practices, labor disputes, and risk mitigation.

  • Provide guidance on union relations, collective bargaining agreements, and teacher tenure matters.

Policy Development & Compliance
  • Draft, review, and update employment policies, handbooks, and compliance documentation.

  • Conduct employment law compliance reviews and wage/hour audits.

  • Ensure alignment with federal, state, and education-specific employment regulations.

Training & Client Education
  • Deliver training programs for administrators and HR professionals on employment law compliance and best practices.

  • Lead workshops on anti-discrimination, harassment prevention, and managing unionized educational workforces.

Qualifications

  • Industry Focus: School district defense experience required; public entity defense experience is a plus.

  • Litigation: Strong employment litigation background; trial experience preferred but not required.

  • PAGA: Extensive experience handling PAGA matters.

  • Compliance: Experience with employment law compliance documentation, handbooks, and wage/hour audits.

  • Education: Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctor from an accredited institution.

  • Bar Admission: Active member of the State Bar of California in good standing.

  • Skills: Superior research, analytical, negotiation, written, and oral communication abilities.

  • Location: Must be based in California.

  • Professional Approach: Commitment to proactive case management and client-focused service.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Base Salary: $175,000 โ€“ $230,000 (commensurate with experience).

  • Bonus: Performance-based bonus eligibility.

  • Billable Hours: 1,150 annually.

  • Caseload: Approximately 15โ€“25 active matters.

  • Work Arrangement: Fully remote (California).

  • Benefits: Competitive benefits package aligned with senior-level roles.
