Job description

We are currently looking for a Senior Cybersecurity Engineer for a 100% remote position supporting a large federal government healthcare modernization project. This hands-on technical leadership position will oversee security engineering, security architecture, Authorization to Operate activities, continuous monitoring, and Zero Trust compliance across complex U.S. Census Bureau environments. This position is contingent upon contract award.

The Senior Cybersecurity Engineer will operate within Agile, DevSecOps, cloud, development, testing, integration, and production environments while providing technical direction to Information Systems Security Officers and Information Systems Security Engineers. The selected candidate must be available to travel to the Washington, DC metropolitan area as needed to support onsite meetings, program activities, and customer requirements.

The candidate must reside within the continental US.

Responsibilities

  • Define and lead security architecture, engineering standards, procedures, technologies, security requirements, and verification practices across complex enterprise environments.
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight to ISSO and ISSE teams supporting security engineering, compliance, continuous monitoring, and remediation activities.
  • Lead risk assessments, security-control assessments, security strategy, service design, vulnerability management, and broader cybersecurity program activities.
  • Oversee ATO and System Security Plan activities while ensuring compliance with Zero Trust, continuous-monitoring, and federal security requirements.
  • Design and guide static and dynamic application security testing, penetration testing, vulnerability analysis, and remediation in collaboration with development teams.
  • Communicate security requirements, risks, vulnerabilities, compliance challenges, and actionable remediation recommendations to Government and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to support team objectives and ensure the success of the project.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Information Assurance, Cybersecurity, or a related field, with at least 10 years of relevant experience, including five years leading large security-engineering, ISSO, or ISSE teams; additional relevant experience may substitute for a degree.
  • Current Certified Information Systems Security Professional certification.
  • At least five years of security-engineering experience supporting Agile, Scrum or SAFe, DevSecOps, and cloud-based projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of ATOs, System Security Plans, Zero Trust, continuous monitoring, security-control assessment, risk management, and federal security policy.
  • Hands-on experience with application security testing, penetration testing, encryption, communication protocols, access control, PKI, incident response, and defense-in-depth architectures.
  • Strong communication, leadership, mentoring, customer-engagement, collaboration, analytical, and remediation-planning skills.

Additional Qualifications

  • Information Systems Security Engineering Professional certification.
  • Experience supporting U.S. Census Bureau, Department of Commerce, or comparable civilian federal information systems.
  • Experience applying NIST Risk Management Framework, NIST SP 800-53, FISMA, FedRAMP, and federal Zero Trust requirements within cloud and DevSecOps environments.

Security Clearance Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • All selected candidates must successfully complete a background check.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Government/Public Trust clearance, including required fingerprinting, when required for the position.
