About the Role

Join a dynamic organization in a newly formed role, Benefits Manager. To this point, decisions about insurance and risk analysis have been handled by executive leaders with the counsel of the company’s insurance broker. Growth, adaptation, and complexities emerging due to new business ventures necessitate the need for a seasoned and accomplished employee benefits insurance professional to optimize health and welfare programs and oversee all aspects of product selection, plan design, compliance, cost containment, and renewals.


Duties & Responsibilities

First, the executives are hungry for a true consultant. They want an advisor and trusted partner who takes the same type of ownership and pride as they do in the business.


Second, you’ll conduct extensive due diligence and risk analysis on the company’s current portfolio which includes multiple entities and multiple industries with various group sizes and funding arrangements. You’ll analyze plan performance and costs as well as manage renewals and ensure success with the annual open enrollment process.


Third, you’ll create risk management action plans customized for each business unit based on benchmarking, utilization, claims, and market trends. You’ll coordinate the flow of information between companies, brokers, and internal teams.


Finally, provide solutions for risk mitigation and claims issues as they arise. Ensure consistency in coverage and pricing. Maintain policy documentation, manage renewal timelines, conduct insurance due diligence on new acquisitions, and prepare reports for executive leadership.


Skills & Experience

  • At least ten (10) years of employee benefits insurance industry experience with deep expertise in group health and ancillary benefits plan design and renewals, including prior experience managing employee benefit plans for an employer
  • Deep understanding of insurance design, pricing, placement, negotiations, claims, and risk management
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating and managing large group benefits programs
