Job Description

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) at Eareckson Air Station (EAS) is responsible for delivering high-quality, comprehensive medical services in a remote and challenging environment. The NP will provide primary and emergency care, manage chronic conditions, support medical evacuations, and maintain medical records in accordance with federal and state regulations, ensuring the health and safety of all personnel at the station.

The NP is responsible for providing medical oversight, direction, and leadership to the medical staff regarding all areas of healthcare in this remote setting.  They will be responsible for the leadership of the medical staff as well as providing status updates to the prime vendor and federal agencies. 

Key Responsibilities:

Leads quality development and clinical governance agendas including maintaining Code of Conduct of medical practice, medical record keeping, infection control standards, emergency response preparedness, medical staff, and patient safety at the facility.

Medical Services

  • Staff and operate the medical clinic on EAS, providing acute and emergency medical care to all personnel.
  • Ensure availability for emergency response 24/7/365, with the ability to respond within 30 minutes of notification.
  • Sustain life, limb, or eyesight until evacuation is possible.
  • Manage and coordinate medical evacuations, including administrative services for medevac operations.
  • Provide mortuary affairs services as required.
  • Inspect and maintain the medical clinic and equipment, ensuring compliance with all relevant health care standards.
  • Provide direct supervision of medical staff and care oversight.  This includes the medical oversight and periodic review program.
  • Provide tele-radiology services and collaborate with other medical professionals as needed.
  • Shoot and interpret basic X-rays as required to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
  • Provide medical staffing, loading, and scheduling plans to meet medical support and care requirements.
  • Provide Medical SOPs (s), and policies for care services.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Compliance

  • Maintain and update patient medical records in accordance with HIPAA and other federal regulations.
  • Ensure proper storage, inventory, and security of medications, adhering to DoD, AAAHC, FDA, and state requirements.
  • Submit required reports, including detailed monthly reports on medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, and any medical incidents.

Coordination and Logistics

  • Work with ASRCC and International SOS Operations Management to ensure timely resupply of medical and laboratory supplies.
  • Maintain and repair subcontractor-provided medical equipment, ensuring it is operational at all times.
Qualifications

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Expertise in providing acute and emergency medical care in remote or austere environments.
  • Strong knowledge of medical evacuation procedures and the ability to manage complex evacuations.
  • Proficiency in maintaining medical records and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, including HIPAA.
  • Competency in telemedicine and tele-radiology services.
  • Ability to shoot and interpret basic X-rays independently.

Experience Preferred:

  • Previous experience in military or remote medical settings is highly desirable. Prior employment as a government subcontractor or prime contractor is preferred.
  • Experience in coordinating and managing medical evacuations, including administrative aspects.
  • Familiarity with remote site medical logistics and supply management.
  • Familiarity with mortuary affairs procedures and remote site medical logistics.
  • Extensive ER experience

Education Required:

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing or Nurse Practice from an accredited institution.
  • Current and unrestricted license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in at least one state within the United States, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico.
  • Certification by a recognized national certifying body (e.g., ANCC, AANP) appropriate to the NP’s specialty.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Certification by the American College of Surgeons - Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) is preferred.
  • DEA license

Physical Demands:

  • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to work in a remote and potentially challenging environment with limited resources.
  • Capacity to respond quickly to emergencies and provide care under stressful conditions.
  • May require bending, stooping, and lifting up to 35 lbs.

Other Special Qualifications:

  • Must obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) or Tier 1 investigation equivalent if working over 180 days in a fiscal year.
  • Availability to work during clinic hours and respond to emergencies as needed.
  • Willingness to travel to and work at Eareckson Air Station for extended periods.
  • US Citizen with a valid passport.
