What is a Remote RF Engineer job?

A Remote RF Engineer is a professional who designs, analyzes, and optimizes radio frequency (RF) systems while working remotely. They focus on tasks such as network planning, signal analysis, interference mitigation, and equipment testing for industries like telecommunications, aerospace, and defense. Using specialized software and tools, they ensure effective wireless communication without being physically present at a work site. This role requires knowledge of RF principles, antenna design, and wireless standards. Strong problem-solving skills and experience with RF simulation tools are essential for success in this position.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Remote Rf Engineer position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote RF Engineer, you need a strong background in radio frequency theory, wireless communication, circuit design, and a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with RF simulation tools (such as CST, HFSS, or ADS), spectrum analyzers, and certifications like a Professional Engineer (PE) license or relevant vendor certifications are highly valued. Excellent problem-solving, self-management, and clear written and verbal communication skills distinguish top candidates. These skills are crucial as RF Engineers must independently analyze, design, and troubleshoot complex wireless systems while effectively collaborating with distributed teams.

Employment Type: Full-Time

About Communication Technology Services (CTS)

Communication Technology Services (CTS) is one of the largest integrators and managed service providers for enterprise cellular networks in the U.S. We specialize in the design, installation, and support of Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), Small Cell, and Private 4G/5G Wireless Networks for enterprise clients.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Enterprise Sales Engineer with deep expertise in Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) to drive technical deal strategy across our Midwest and Mountain regions.

In this role, you will partner directly with the Sales team to qualify, design, scope, quote, and win complex in-building and outdoor enterprise wireless solutions. You are a technical subject matter expert capable of managing the full pre-sales lifecycle—from initial RF benchmarking and design to final carrier commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Pre-Sales & Strategy

  • Solution Architecture: Lead technical discovery, analyze client infrastructure, and architect custom DAS and cellular solutions tailored to client needs and business goals.
  • Deal Support: Partner with Sales Representatives to conduct technical presentations, present RFP/RFI responses, and demonstrate CTS capabilities to potential enterprise clients.
  • Proposal & Scope Creation: Collaborate with Design Engineers and Operations to build accurate Scopes of Work (SOWs), spec sheets, solution diagrams, and detailed bill of materials (BOM).
  • Competitive Positioning: Help steer customer technical requirements toward CTS strengths and articulate value propositions relative to competitive options.

Delivery Hand-Off & Customer Success

  • Operational Transition: Serve as the technical bridge between Sales, Operations, and Engineering. Ensure seamless handoff of technical documentation to the implementation team for execution.
  • Account Support: Provide ongoing pre-sales support for existing client upsells, expansions, and technology refresh initiatives.

Market Intelligence & Representation

  • Industry Engagement: Attend key industry events, trade shows, and regional client site visits to deliver live demonstrations and represent CTS.
  • Market Feedback: Inform leadership on emerging technology trends, client pain points, and competitive shifts to help shape product offering roadmaps.

Technical & Professional Qualifications

Technical Requirements

  • DAS OEM Proficiency: Hands-on design and commissioning experience with at least 3 of the following OEM platforms:
    • CommScope (Era, ION-E, ION-M)
    • JMA Wireless (TEKO)
    • Corning (Everon, MobileAccess, SpiderCloud)
    • SOLiD (ALLIANCE, GENESIS)
    • ADRF (ADXV Series)
  • RAN Integration: Familiarity with signal source integration for major vendors (Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung Networks).
  • Industry Tools: Proficient with iBwave Design (Level 2 or 3 certification preferred), PCTEL/Keysight scanning tools, TEMS, and Anritsu/Viavi spectrum analyzers.
  • Spectrum & Protocols: Strong knowledge of LTE, 5G NR, CBRS, and Public Safety bands (700/800 MHz).
  • Standards & KPIs: Thorough understanding of active and passive component best practices, carrier KPIs, and public safety mandate requirements.

Education & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related technical field (or equivalent industry experience).
  • Experience: 5+ years of dedicated RF engineering and pre-sales experience specifically in the DAS / Small Cell sector.
  • Travel: Willingness and capability to travel up to 25% for site surveys, client meetings, and commissioning milestones

Salary range $120,000- 130,000+ commensurate with experience
