Remote Retoucher information

What is a Remote Retoucher?

A Remote Retoucher is a professional who edits and enhances images, typically photographs, using specialized software such as Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom, while working from a location outside the client's office. Their tasks include correcting colors, removing blemishes, adjusting lighting, and sometimes manipulating images to achieve a specific artistic effect. Remote retouchers often work for photographers, advertising agencies, e-commerce companies, or as freelancers. The remote aspect allows them to collaborate with clients around the world using digital communication and file-sharing tools.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Retoucher, and why are they important?

A Remote Retoucher should have advanced photo editing skills, a keen eye for visual detail, and proficiency in industry-standard software like Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. Familiarity with color correction, retouching techniques, and digital asset management systems is essential, and relevant certifications can be advantageous. Strong communication, time management, and the ability to interpret client feedback set standout retouchers apart. These skills ensure the delivery of high-quality, visually consistent images that meet client expectations and deadlines in a remote work environment.

What are some common challenges faced by remote retouchers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote retouchers often encounter challenges such as managing tight deadlines, ensuring consistent communication with clients or creative teams, and maintaining high-quality standards without in-person feedback. To address these, it's important to establish clear project timelines, use reliable communication tools for regular check-ins, and request detailed briefs or reference images. Additionally, setting up a calibrated workspace and staying organized with digital asset management software can help remote retouchers deliver consistent, professional results.

What is the difference between Remote Retoucher vs Photo Editor?

Remote Retouchers focus on detailed image retouching like skin smoothing and background removal, while Photo Editors handle broader image adjustments, color grading, and overall composition. Both roles require proficiency in editing software, but Photo Editors often have a wider scope of responsibilities. Understanding these differences helps clients find the right professional for their project needs.

What Does a Remote Retoucher Do?

As a remote retoucher, you work from home to retouch and edit photographs for your client. In this role, you may offer a variety of retouching services for images, make suggestions for correcting, and give advice on the best way to print the photograph once you are done working on it. Many aspects of this job depend on the employer. For example, some remote retouchers focus on product photography and creating assets for marketing teams while others work with models, artists, or other creative individuals. Remote retouchers often work in a deadline-driven environment, so the ability to quickly make the requested edits is essential to success in this field.

Job description

Established in 2004, OLIVER is the world's first and only specialist in designing, building, and running bespoke in-house agencies and marketing ecosystems for brands. We partner with over 300 clients in 40+ countries and counting. Our unique model drives creativity and efficiency, allowing us to deliver tailored solutions that resonate deeply with audiences.

As a part of The Brandtech Group, we're at the forefront of leveraging cutting-edge AI technology to revolutionise how we create and deliver work. Our AI solutions enhance efficiency, spark creativity, and drive insightful decision-making, empowering our teams to produce innovative and impactful results.

Role: GenAI Designer

Location: Remote, Canada

About the role:

Join our team, where you'll help create and localize high-volume content for a leading vacuum and floorcare brand across the USA (and potentially additional markets). You'll produce digital-first assets that showcase product performance, features, and innovation—while ensuring brand consistency, accuracy, and compliance with category requirements (e.g., product representation, feature claims, certifications, and marketplace/channel guidelines).

This role is ideal for a hands-on designer who loves craft and speed, thrives in a high-output environment, and is excited to use Generative AI to accelerate exploration, versioning, and production—without compromising quality.

What you will be doing:

  • Design and adapt high volumes of assets within Oliver's AI platform across paid social, display, eComm, email, retail.com modules, and campaign toolkits.
  • Build clean, conversion-minded layouts that clearly communicate vacuum/floorcare benefits (suction power, filtration, runtime, attachments, floor type versatility, etc.).
  • Create variations by retailer/channel, audience, and promotional moment (seasonal events, launches, offers), maintaining consistent branding and specs.
  • Use GenAI tools to speed up concept exploration and production tasks (e.g., background generation/extension, environment variations, lifestyle scene exploration, rapid compositing, copy/layout iteration support).
  • Support responsible GenAI usage by following guidelines for brand safety, accurate product depiction, and asset provenance.
  • Contribute to prompt/playbook development and reusable workflows that help the team produce faster and more consistently.
  • Maintain high standards for product realism and detail (colour, materials/finishes, lighting, reflections, shadows, proportions).
  • Ensure claims and on-image callouts match approved product specs and legal/retailer requirements.
  • Apply and help evolve brand guidelines, templates, and style sheets across deliverables.
  • Partner directly with clients, Copywriters, and Project Managers to deliver on schedule.
  • Participate in Client reviews, incorporate feedback quickly, and manage multiple priorities in parallel.

What you need to be great in this role:

  • 3+ years of design experience in a high-volume digital or retail environment (in-house, agency, or production studio).
  • Strong skills in layout, typography, visual hierarchy, and performance-minded design for digital channels.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign); comfort working with templates and modular systems.
  • Practical experience using Generative AI tools in a design workflow (concepting, iteration, adaptation, or production support).
  • Strong attention to detail—especially around accurate product representation and clean compositing/retouching.
  • Ability to work quickly without sacrificing craft; comfortable juggling multiple projects and tight timelines.
  • Clear communicator who collaborates well across creative, project management, and client stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with workflow/collaboration tools (e.g., Adobe Workfront, Microsoft 365) a plus.
