What is remote retail management?

A Remote Retail Management job involves overseeing retail operations, sales, and team performance from a remote location. Responsibilities may include inventory management, staff supervision, customer service, and sales strategy implementation. Managers use digital tools to monitor performance, communicate with teams, and optimize processes. This role requires strong leadership, organization, and adaptability to ensure efficiency without being physically present in a store.

What are some typical challenges faced in remote retail management and how can they be addressed?

In remote retail management, one common challenge is maintaining effective communication and oversight across geographically dispersed store teams. Managers rely heavily on digital tools for performance monitoring, training, and problem resolution, which can sometimes make team cohesion and real-time support more difficult. Addressing these challenges involves establishing clear communication protocols, leveraging collaborative technologies, and scheduling regular virtual check-ins with store staff. Proactive engagement and transparent leadership help ensure team alignment and effective operations, even when working from a distance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in remote retail management?

To excel in Remote Retail Management, you need strong retail operations expertise, leadership experience, and typically a bachelor’s degree in business, retail management, or a related field. Familiarity with retail management systems, inventory software, and virtual collaboration platforms is essential for effective oversight. Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills distinguish top performers in a remote setting. Mastering these skills ensures managers can efficiently lead dispersed teams, maintain smooth operations, and drive sales from a distance.

Job description

Remote Life Insurance Sales Representative

Florida & Georgia Priority | Licensed Applicants Prioritized | Licensing Support Available for Qualified Candidates

The Weatherspoon Agency is expanding our remote insurance sales team and is seeking motivated professionals who want to help working families understand and secure life and supplemental benefit coverage.

Already licensed in life insurance? You will receive priority consideration.

Not licensed yet? You are still encouraged to apply. Qualified candidates who are willing and eligible to obtain a life insurance license may be considered, and licensing guidance is available through the onboarding process.

Our current recruiting priority is Florida and Georgia, with qualified applicants from most other eligible U.S. states also considered.

California and New York applicants are not currently eligible.

What This Opportunity Offers

  • 100% remote sales environment
  • Agency-provided warm leads at no cost to agents
  • No door-to-door sales
  • Structured virtual onboarding and training
  • Ongoing coaching and mentorship
  • Sales scripts, presentations, and technology resources
  • Commission income with potential bonuses and renewal income
  • Leadership-development opportunities based on performance
  • Client appointments conducted by phone and video

Licensed and Unlicensed Applicants Welcome

We are especially interested in candidates who currently hold an active life insurance license.

Priority consideration is generally given to:

  • Licensed life insurance agents in Florida
  • Licensed life insurance agents in Georgia
  • Licensed agents in other eligible states
  • Florida and Georgia residents willing to become licensed
  • Qualified unlicensed applicants in other eligible states

Previous insurance experience is helpful, but it is not required for qualified candidates.

Candidates with backgrounds in sales, customer service, hospitality, recruiting, financial services, benefits enrollment, retail management, telephone sales, or other people-focused roles are encouraged to apply.

Candidates selected to continue must be willing and eligible to obtain the appropriate state life insurance license before performing licensed insurance activity.

Licensing requirements vary by state and may include pre-licensing education, examination, background review, fingerprinting, and state application requirements. Candidates may be responsible for applicable licensing, examination, fingerprinting, technology, and related startup costs.

What You Will Do

As a Remote Life Insurance Sales Representative, you will:

  • Follow up with individuals and families who have requested information or have access to eligible benefit programs
  • Work with agency-provided leads
  • Schedule and conduct phone and virtual appointments
  • Identify client insurance and financial-protection needs
  • Explain available life, supplemental health, and accident-benefit options
  • Assist qualified applicants with electronic insurance applications
  • Follow up on pending applications and underwriting requirements
  • Maintain accurate activity and client records
  • Complete required product, compliance, and continuing-education training
  • Develop referrals and long-term client relationships

This is a sales position and requires consistent telephone outreach, follow-up, appointment setting, and client presentations.

Compensation

This is a commission-only, 1099 independent contractor opportunity.

This position does not provide:

  • Hourly wages
  • Base salary
  • Guaranteed minimum income
  • Traditional W-2 employee benefits
  • Paid training

Compensation may include:

  • Sales commissions
  • Production-based bonuses and incentives when qualification requirements are met
  • Renewal income based on qualifying business and tenure

At a starting-agent production level of approximately three to four issued-and-paid sales per week, new agents have historically earned approximately $1,200–$2,400 in gross weekly commissions and bonuses during their first 90 days.

This example is provided only to illustrate how the commission structure has historically performed at a specific production level. It is not a guarantee or promise of earnings.

Actual compensation varies based on individual activity, sales results, policy placement, carrier approval, persistency, chargebacks, and other factors. Independent contractors are responsible for their own taxes and business-related expenses.

Training and Support

Selected candidates receive access to:

  • Structured virtual onboarding
  • Licensing guidance for qualified unlicensed applicants
  • Product and compliance education
  • Sales-process training
  • Scripts and presentation resources
  • Live coaching and mentorship
  • Electronic application systems
  • Customer and appointment-management tools
  • Ongoing professional development
  • Leadership-development opportunities for qualified producers

Training is provided to prepare candidates for the opportunity, but training time is not paid.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be legally authorized to work as an independent contractor in the United States
  • Reside in a state where contracting is available
  • Be currently licensed or willing and eligible to obtain the required life insurance license
  • Meet applicable state, carrier, background, and appointment requirements
  • Have reliable high-speed internet
  • Have access to a computer, phone, webcam, and private workspace
  • Communicate professionally by phone and video
  • Be comfortable working in a performance-based sales environment
  • Be willing to consistently follow up with leads and conduct sales presentations
  • Be able to work independently and follow a structured process
  • Be eligible to enter an exclusive agency relationship

Candidates currently appointed with another carrier, brokerage, or agency may still apply. Conflicting appointments may need to be transferred or terminated before contracting.

Application and Interview Process

1. Apply Through ZipRecruiter

Submit your application and résumé with accurate contact information.

2. Application Review

Applications are reviewed with priority consideration given to currently licensed candidates and applicants located in Florida and Georgia.

3. Schedule Your Phone Interview

Candidates selected to advance will receive a follow-up invitation to complete a few additional candidate details and self-schedule a brief initial phone interview.

4. Learn More and Prepare

After scheduling, candidates are redirected to our career information site to review additional details about the position, compensation structure, licensing, training, agency expectations, and interview process.

5. Interview Process

The initial phone interview is a brief conversation about your background, licensing status, career goals, and the opportunity. Candidates selected to continue may then be invited to a final virtual interview with agency leadership.

Not every applicant will advance through every stage.

Licensing, background review, contracting, carrier approval, and appointment requirements must be completed before an individual may perform licensed insurance activity.
