About Us

Whale Song is a dynamic and growing product services company specializing in custom software and technology solutions for late-stage start-ups, mid-market and enterprise companies. We don't just build software-we solve complex business challenges by deeply understanding the 'why' behind each product, ensuring every solution delivers real value.

We're hiring a true hunter BDR who is wired to win. This is not an "order taker" role and it's not for someone who needs a warm pipeline handed to them. This role is for a competitive, disciplined, high-energy outbound professional who thrives on activity, rejection, and commission.

You will be responsible for generating net-new qualified leads through cold outreach, prospecting, and consistent follow-up. You'll operate like a mini sales engine, creating momentum and feeding qualified opportunities into the pipeline.

This role offers a base salary and uncapped commission of $45 USD per qualified lead generated.

Position Overview

As theBusiness Development Representative (BDR) this person will be a true hunter and thrives in an outbound environment. This role is built for someone who is motivated by performance, driven by commission, and comfortable creating pipeline from scratch through cold outreach and disciplined follow-up.

Success in this role is measured by one thing: qualified leads generated consistently.

This is a front-line growth role for someone who wants uncapped earning potential and is willing to earn it. This position will report to the Executive Director who leads our enterprise revenue strategy as well as operations and fulfillment.

While our corporate office is in downtown Houston, we are flexible on location for the best candidate. Occasional travel may be required for this role to close deals and cultivate client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute outbound prospecting via cold calls, email, and LinkedIn
  • Identify and target net-new prospects aligned to the Ideal Customer Profile (ICP)
  • Generate qualified leads through structured intro and qualification conversations
  • Book and coordinate meetings with qualified prospects for the sales team
  • Maintain accurate, real-time CRM activity tracking (calls, emails, notes, outcomes)
  • Run consistent follow-up cadences to convert "not now" prospects into future opportunities
  • Continuously improve messaging, objection handling, and conversion rates through iteration
  • Collaborate with sales and leadership to refine targeting, scripts, and outreach strategies
  • Meet weekly activity goals and performance targets tied to qualified lead output

Qualifications

  • 1+ year experience in outbound sales development, BDR/SDR work, or lead generation
  • Proven ability to cold call and consistently prospect net-new opportunities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (email + phone confidence required)
  • Comfortable operating in a metrics-driven environment with clear weekly targets
  • Ability to qualify prospects using a structured approach (needs, fit, urgency, decision path)
  • Strong organizational skills, follow-through, and time management
  • Experience using a CRM consistently (HubSpot preferred, but not required)
  • Coachable mindset with a strong bias toward action and execution

Preferred

  • Experience selling B2B services (custom software, consulting, product development, IT services)
  • Experience selling into mid-market and enterprise organizations
  • Familiarity with qualification frameworks (i.e., BANT)
  • Experience using LinkedIn Sales Navigator and sequencing tools
  • Demonstrated track record of high activity volume and consistent lead generation results
  • Comfort engaging senior stakeholders (Director, VP, C-level) and navigating gatekeepers

What We Offer

  • Base salary plus commission based on performance
  • Company Health Plan (medical, dental, vision) OR stipend towards external healthcare coverage
  • Company-paid life insurance and other health offerings
  • Technology stipend
  • 401k plan
  • Parental Leave
  • Paid Time Off (vacation, sick time, mental respite, and holidays)
  • Strong emphasis on work/life balance
  • Training and development
  • Flexible schedule and opportunities to work remotely
  • Competitive salary and enormous commission potential
