Medical Science Liaison/Sr Medical Science Liaison (Remote, Central Region)
Work Location: This is a field-based position that requires extensive travel. Applicants should be based within reasonable proximity to a major airport. The candidate must live in the territory or be willing to self-relocate within the territory. The territory includes the following states: Texas, Oklahoma, Iowa, Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Indiana, Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan.

Thea Pharma markets a suite of leading eye-care drugs that have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), including iYUZEH, Zioptanยฎ, Cosoptยฎ, Cosoptยฎ PF, Azasiteยฎ, Aktenยฎ, and Betimolยฎ, as well as AcellFXโ„ข Acellular Amniotic Membrane and the portfolio of iVIZIA dry-eye drops and eyelid hygiene products. By focusing its parent company's passion and expertise within the U.S. market, Thea Pharma's goal is to deliver uncompromising care that enables all stakeholders to envision the future of ophthalmic treatment with eyes wide open.
POSITION SUMMARY
This position will assist with the execution of field medical strategy to support a portfolio of eight ophthalmic products, assist with launch Medical Affairs activities for glaucoma, provide support for dry eye disease OTC product, and aid in continued pipeline development. This position will also establish appropriate strategic partnership with centers of excellence, institutions, consultants and KOLs in areas of scientific interest.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The areas of specific responsibility will include the following:
  • Develop and maintain peer-to-peer collaborations and relationships with key medical experts in the ophthalmic community.
  • Maintain In-depth functional clinical knowledge of the entire Thea Pharma Inc portfolio.
  • Applies advanced field-based medical experience, subject matter knowledge, and skills in supporting medical strategies for Thea products and compounds and in addressing unsolicited requests for medical information from healthcare professionals, as well as managed care organizations, payers, and other formulary makers.
  • Participates in, leads, and contributes to projects and initiatives that increase the value and productivity of Medical Affairs (MA).
  • Collaborates with physicians on Medical Affairs (MA) initiatives including publications, advisory boards, and medical education.
  • Expands on and leverages relationships by aligning expertise with Thea needs. Successfully connects experts internally to serve as advisors, expert guest speakers, investigators, and business development partners.
  • Actively participates in executing Medical Affairs (MA) strategy at medical conferences by identifying relevant sessions, coordinating field coverage, gathering competitive intelligence, and proactively facilitating expert interactions with Thea stakeholders.
  • Actively participates in, and contributes to, Medical Affairs (MA) or cross-functional projects/initiatives.
  • Serves as scientific peer-to-peer resource to external disease experts and internal stakeholders.
  • Regularly collects and interprets medical insights and intelligence gathered from scientific exchange with key external stakeholders.
  • Communicates relevant information to internal stakeholders to define, update, and support medical strategies.
  • Communicate clinical insights on new data to Medical Affairs (MA) and to inform medical strategy for the therapeutic area.
  • Maintain accurate reporting and documentation of Medical Science Liaison activities.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
It is anticipated that the ideal candidate will possess:
  • A Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Doctor of Optometry (OD), or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree is required.
  • A minimum of 2 to 4 years of medical science liaison and/or relevant clinical/research experience in eyecare or vision sciences.
  • Communication skills, both oral and written, and able to engender trust and respect of peers, team members, and leadership.
  • Well-versed in highly technical and scientific languages to communicate with key Thought Leaders, Medical Affairs, Research and Development, as well as other key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Firm understanding of the key phases, processes, and techniques that are involved in both the pre-clinical and clinical aspects of drug development.
  • Proven track record of teamwork, decision-making and focus on meeting objectives.
  • Can use field-based telephone and digital tools for all aspects of the job is critical.
  • Previous Medical Science Liaison experience in Ophthalmology/Optometry preferred.
  • Clinical, research, and/or teaching experience in Ophthalmology/Optometry preferred.
  • This role is open at the MSL or Sr. MSL level. The specific title and compensation will be aligned with the candidate's experience, qualifications, and internal equity.

TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS
As a member of field medical affairs, it is expected that you:
  • Drive to or fly to meetings and client sites.
  • Overnight travel (50-70%), including some weekend commitments.
  • Travel may vary depending on geography.
  • Must have valid driver license with safe driving record.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENTThis position requires prolonged sitting. Additionally, it requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity enough to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and vision to record, prepare, and communicate appropriately. Additional physical requirements include hearing spoken communication clearly.
