POSITION SPECIFICS

We are searching for a Navigation Analysis Research and Development Engineer to join our Navigation Research and Development Division (NRDD) of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State located in Warminster, PA. NRDD is a division of ARL focused on advanced navigation technologies built around a unique laboratory specially designed to test incredibly sensitive navigation sensors. We are seeking an individual for data analysis and potentially testing to support R&D, prototype development, and experimental evaluation of new navigation technologies for military platforms.

ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.

You will:

  • Acquire detailed knowledge in navigation sensor and systems technology
  • Work with an interdisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to bring new ideas to fruition
  • Perform data analysis on navigation sensors and systems
  • Analyze laboratory and field test data
  • Develop skills in analysis to plan and conduct tests

Additional responsibilities for higher level position includes:

  • Write reports on analysis and test efforts
  • Generate tools and scripts to support data analysis
  • Interpret analysis results
  • Analyze deficiencies in observed performance
  • Write test documentation (plans, procedures, etc.)
  • Development and verification of sensor and/or system models to support various Modeling & Simulation (M&S) efforts

Required skills/experience areas include:

  • Completed Math Courses: Calculus I / II / III, Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra
  • Basic knowledge of MATLAB or other programming languages
  • Excellent communication skills, including technical writing

Preferred skills/experience areas include:

  • Master's degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics
  • MATLAB

  • Sensors and/or systems testing

Your working location will be fully on-site, located at the Navigation Research & Development Center (NRDC) in Warminster, PA. Questions related to flexible work should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process. This position may require travel to remote locations for field-testing; in a laboratory, or at-sea aboard a surface ship or a submarine.
