Remote Recovery Support Navigator information

What is a remote recovery support navigator?

A Remote Recovery Support Navigator is a professional who provides guidance, resources, and emotional support to individuals recovering from substance use or mental health challenges, primarily through virtual communication channels such as phone, video calls, or online chat. They help clients set recovery goals, connect them with community resources, and offer ongoing encouragement to maintain sobriety or mental wellness. The role often involves collaboration with healthcare providers and support networks to ensure clients have a comprehensive recovery plan. Remote Recovery Support Navigators may work for treatment centers, non-profits, or telehealth organizations, offering flexible and accessible support regardless of the client's location.

How does a remote recovery support navigator typically collaborate with clients and other care team members while working remotely?

Remote Recovery Support Navigators usually interact with clients via phone, video calls, and secure messaging platforms to provide ongoing support and connect them to necessary resources. They collaborate closely with healthcare providers, social workers, and peer support specialists through virtual team meetings and shared digital documentation. This structure ensures clients receive coordinated care, while navigators maintain open communication channels with the entire care team. Adapting to remote work requires strong organizational skills and proactive outreach to both clients and colleagues.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote recovery support navigator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Recovery Support Navigator, you need a solid understanding of addiction recovery principles, strong case management skills, and often a relevant certification such as Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) or equivalent experience in behavioral health. Familiarity with telehealth platforms, electronic documentation systems, and secure communication tools is typically required. Exceptional listening skills, empathy, and the ability to motivate individuals remotely are standout soft skills in this role. These skills are essential for building trust, providing effective support, and ensuring positive recovery outcomes for clients in a virtual environment.

Job description

Certified Peer Support Specialist - Fully Remote (Nationwide)
CLF Consultants LLC (CLFC Healthcare and Communications) is expanding its nationwide network of certified peer support specialists to deliver virtual community reentry peer support for a federal program supporting the U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons, Community Treatment Services. This is a fully remote, non-clinical, lived-experience peer role. All services are delivered virtually by telephone and secure video.
Why this opportunity stands out: Fully remote nationwide; flexible, self-set schedule; federal reentry mission; agency secure delivery platform; no clinical treatment responsibilities; potential multi-year engagement.
Compensation: $32 to $38 per hour, Independent Contractor (1099).
Position Overview: You walk alongside participants as a peer who has navigated recovery from a mental health condition, a substance use disorder, or involvement with the justice system, and you help each person set their own goals, build practical strategies, and stay connected to support during reentry. You do not diagnose, treat, or provide clinical services.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct virtual enrollment and peer support sessions with assigned participants, tailoring frequency and approach to each person's goals.
  • Draw on your own recovery or reentry experience to build trust, model hope, and support long-term recovery and community reintegration.
  • Help participants identify strengths, set their own goals, and build actionable everyday strategies.
  • Maintain a confidential, respectful virtual space and clear non-clinical peer boundaries.
  • Document each session and complete required reporting accurately and on time through the program's secure system.
  • Recognize when a participant needs additional help and connect them to appropriate resources, including crisis lines and community supports.
  • Maintain an active caseload within program limits and respond promptly to participants and program coordinators.

Required Qualifications:
  • Current certification as a peer support specialist, such as NCPRSS, NCPS, or a state-recognized certified peer specialist credential (documentation required).
  • Lived experience of recovery from a mental health condition, a substance use disorder, or both, and/or lived experience with the justice system.
  • Comfort delivering services virtually by secure video and telephone, with reliable internet and a private, confidential space.
  • Strong listening, interpersonal, and boundary-setting skills; ability to document accurately and meet reporting timelines.

Strongly Preferred: Experience providing peer support in a reentry, correctional, or community-based setting; familiarity with recovery goals related to substance use and mental health; bilingual ability.
Engagement details: As an independent contractor, you supply your own reliable internet, private confidential workspace, and video-capable device. The DOJ/BOP contract requires use of the agency-approved secure delivery platform for all virtual sessions; a brief contract orientation covers federal scope and documentation standards.
