Job description

Direct Counsel is seeking an Affordable Housing Transactional Attorney with 6–8 years of experience to join a sophisticated real estate and public law practice serving affordable housing developers, public agencies, and community development stakeholders throughout California.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an attorney with significant experience in affordable housing policy, development, and financing transactions who is passionate about working on projects that have a meaningful impact on communities.

Responsibilities
  • Structure, negotiate, and draft affordable housing development and financing agreements
  • Prepare and negotiate loan documents, ground leases, regulatory agreements, easements, and related transactional documents for multifamily housing developments
  • Advise clients on affordable housing policy and regulatory compliance matters
  • Support affordable housing acquisition, development, financing, and disposition transactions
  • Collaborate with developers, lenders, public agencies, and project stakeholders throughout all phases of development
  • Assist with complex real estate and public-private partnership transactions
Qualifications
  • 6–8 years of transactional legal experience focused on affordable housing matters
  • Significant experience with affordable housing development and financing transactions
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, analytical, and client counseling skills
  • Experience with first-time homebuyer programs, construction documents, and commercial leasing is a plus
  • Ability to manage sophisticated transactions independently while collaborating effectively with clients and colleagues
  • California Bar admission required
Compensation & Benefits
  • Base salary range: $190,000 – $225,000
  • Annual performance-based and billable hours bonuses
  • Mainly Remote – Must reside in California!
