What is a remote real estate transaction?

A remote real estate transaction is the process of buying or selling property without the need for in-person meetings. Instead, all steps—including viewing properties, negotiating, signing documents, and closing—are conducted virtually using digital tools and secure online platforms. Remote transactions have become more popular due to advances in technology and the need for flexibility. They offer convenience for buyers, sellers, and agents who may be located in different regions or have busy schedules. However, it's important to use trusted platforms to ensure the security and legality of the process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote real estate transaction coordinator?

To excel as a Remote Real Estate Transaction Coordinator, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of real estate processes, often supported by experience in real estate or a related certification. Familiarity with transaction management software (like Dotloop or DocuSign), CRM systems, and cloud-based document storage is typically required. Excellent communication, time management, and problem-solving abilities are crucial for coordinating multiple stakeholders and ensuring smooth closings. These skills ensure accuracy, efficiency, and client satisfaction throughout the remote transaction process.

What are some common challenges faced by remote real estate transaction coordinators, and how can they be addressed?

Remote real estate transaction coordinators often navigate challenges such as maintaining clear communication with agents, clients, and vendors across different platforms and time zones. Additionally, securely managing and organizing large volumes of digital documents can be demanding. To address these challenges, effective use of project management tools, regular check-ins with the team, and strict adherence to secure file-sharing protocols are essential. Building strong virtual relationships and staying proactive in communication help ensure smooth transaction progress from contract to closing.

Job description

Summary of Responsibilities:

At American Transmission Company (ATC), the work we do connects communities, supports economic growth, and helps ensure reliable electric transmission service across our region. Behind every transmission project is a team of professionals who secure the property rights, stakeholder partnerships, and agreements needed to bring critical infrastructure projects to life.
We're looking for a Real Estate Project Manager who is passionate about building relationships, navigating complex projects, and working at the intersection of real estate, infrastructure, and community engagement.
ATC embraces flexibility in our work and our workplace. We trust our employees to get work done where and when it makes sense, depending on the schedule for the day and the needs of the business. However, this role is not 100% remote and would require relocation to Wisconsin.

Essential Responsibilities:

What You'll Do

As a Real Estate Project Manager, you'll oversee projects involving the acquisition, management, leasing, and disposal of property rights and real estate interests needed to support ATC's transmission system and business objectives.

Lead Real Estate Projects

  • Develop and manage project plans from initiation through completion
  • Coordinate activities across multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Monitor schedules, budgets, deliverables, risks, and project performance
  • Ensure project objectives are achieved safely, efficiently, and compliantly

Secure Property Rights & Agreements

  • Manage easements, permits, licenses, leases, agreements, and other real estate interests
  • Support ownership research, title review, encumbrance analysis, and transaction activities
  • Coordinate approvals and documentation required to advance infrastructure projects

Negotiate & Build Relationships

  • Work directly with landowners, municipalities, government agencies, contractors, and business partners
  • Facilitate productive conversations and negotiate practical solutions
  • Address questions related to property rights, easements, construction impacts, and project requirements

Represent ATC in the Community

  • Participate in public information meetings, hearings, zoning discussions, and permitting processes
  • Serve as a professional representative of ATC in stakeholder interactions
  • Communicate complex information in a clear and approachable manner

Ensure Compliance & Accountability

  • Maintain accurate project documentation and records
  • Support corporate, regulatory, legal, and company compliance requirements
  • Manage contractor agreements and review contract performance and invoices

What You'll Bring

We recognize that great candidates come from many different backgrounds. You may be a strong fit if you have experience in:

  • Real estate acquisition or management
  • Right-of-way services
  • Utilities, energy, construction, transportation, or infrastructure projects
  • Land use planning, zoning, permitting, or municipal coordination
  • Project management and stakeholder engagement
  • Property services, title, appraisal, or surveying
  • Contract administration or business operations
  • Customer-facing roles requiring negotiation and relationship management

Education

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Real Estate, Business, Management, Land Use Planning, Public Administration, Project Management, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent experience will also be considered.

Why ATC?

This is more than a traditional real estate role. You'll play a direct role in advancing infrastructure projects that strengthen the energy grid, support local communities, and help prepare the region for future energy needs.

  • Lead impactful real estate projects that directly support critical energy infrastructure
  • Collaborate with engineers, attorneys, project managers, construction teams, government agencies, and community stakeholders
  • Build trusted relationships with landowners and local officials
  • Influence project outcomes through negotiation, communication, and strategic problem-solving
  • Grow your expertise in real estate, right-of-way, permitting, land acquisition, leasing, stakeholder engagement, and infrastructure development
  • Join an organization committed to safety, integrity, collaboration, and service

If you're looking for an opportunity where you can combine project management, relationship building, real estate expertise, and community engagement while helping deliver infrastructure projects that matter, we want you to join our Great Place to Work!

The targeted base pay for this position is $89,500 to $104,400 annually.* Base pay is one component of our comprehensive total rewards package which includes an annual incentive bonus, employer-sponsored pension plan, 401(k) match, HSA contribution, life & disability insurance, health care benefits, generous time off plans, flexible work arrangements, and much more.

*The pay range is a general guideline. Employment offers are evaluated individually and consider qualifications, experience, academic achievements, internal equity, and business needs.
