Position Overview


The firm is seeking an experienced Commercial Real Estate Paralegal based in Calgary (or Alberta) to join their team in a fully remote capacity. This role focuses on supporting sophisticated commercial financing and secured lending transactions, assisting lawyers who act for banks, private lenders, and corporate borrowers. The ideal candidate will possess an advanced understanding of commercial lending transactions, with the ability to independently manage multiple complex files in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.


Key Responsibilities


  • Commercial Lending & Transaction Support: Independently manage commercial lending and secured financing files from initial opening through to funding, electronic registration, and post-closing.
  • Document Preparation: Draft and assemble comprehensive security packages, including General Security Agreements (GSAs), guarantees, corporate resolutions, assignments of rents/leases, and lender reporting letters.
  • Corporate Due Diligence: Review multi-entity corporate structures (holding companies, trusts, partnerships) to verify signing authorities, conduct corporate searches, and manage PPR/bankruptcy due diligence.
  • Registry Systems Management: Utilize Land Titles and electronic registry systems to prepare and register transfers, mortgages, caveats, utility rights of way, and PPR registrations with flawless accuracy.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Act as a primary point of contact for clients, lenders, brokers, title insurers, and opposing counsel to ensure the seamless progression of transactions and funding requirements.
  • Practice & Team Support: Collaborate closely with colleagues, assisting with workflow prioritization, maintaining firm precedents, and mentoring junior staff where appropriate.

  • Strong experience supporting both borrower-side and lender-side transactions
  • Exposure to specialized files (such as construction financing, bridge lending, portfolio financings, or syndicated lending) is considered a strong asset
