Job description

Position Title: democracyFIRST Data Deputy Director

Location: Remote

Salary: Biweekly, $3,780 - $4,090

Preferred Start Date: June 15, 2026

End Date: November 20, 2026

Position Summary:

democracyFIRST is seeking an experienced Deputy Director for the 2026 cycle to assist with data operations to support a multi-state program to elect pro-democracy candidates for down ballot races that play a critical role in protecting the administration of our elections for the future. The role will help create and manage data tools and reporting processes that power the campaign’s organizing and voter contact programs. The Data Director will be responsible for ensuring all data is organized, accessible, and strategically utilized in elections. This position reports directly to the Executive Director, while working closely with the National Field Director. This is a full-time remote position. Given placement of staff across time zones, this employee must be available for work during 10:00am - 6:00pm ET hours with night and weekend availability as the cycle demands.

This position is eligible for benefits, including employer-sponsored health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, and paid holidays.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain the campaign database, tracking data from across multiple platforms
  • Work with large datasets using SQL, Python, BigQuery and other data management tools
  • Assist with the creation of universes, track program progress, lead reporting and analysis
  • Build and maintain automated and ad-hoc reports to evaluate organizing, volunteer recruitment, and voter contact programs
  • Ensure data quality, maintain pipelines, and troubleshoot issues to guarantee smooth operations across programs
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and National Organizing Director

Qualifications (You will be a good fit if):

  • At least 2 cycles experience with Organizing Tools such as VAN, PDI, BigQuery as well as texting, dialer and relational tools
  • Intermediate experience with languages and data tools like SQL, Python, and BigQuery; advanced experience preferred
  • Experience managing large datasets and writing automations
  • Ability to manage several tasks and projects concurrently and to prioritize work effectively
  • Ability to communicate complex data concepts to a non-technical audience
  • Experience working across departments to develop data-driven solutions

Preferred Qualifications (Not Required):

  • Familiarity with voter file data, election results, statistical models, and/or polling data
  • 1-2 cycles of progressive campaign experience, especially working with political data
  • Experience automating and managing Google Sheets
  • Previous experience with targeting for electoral, political, or advocacy campaigns, particularly for field, direct mail, and/or digital programs
