What is remote radiography?

A Remote Radiography job involves reviewing and interpreting medical images, such as X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs, from a remote location. Radiologists or trained professionals use secure digital platforms to analyze images and provide diagnostic reports to healthcare providers. This job allows for greater flexibility and enables hospitals and clinics to access radiology expertise regardless of location. It is especially useful in rural or underserved areas where in-person radiologists may not be available. Remote radiography requires strong attention to detail, specialized training, and adherence to data privacy regulations.

What skills and qualifications are needed for remote radiography?

To thrive in Remote Radiography, you need a solid background in radiologic technology, medical imaging interpretation, and typically an associate’s or bachelor’s degree along with ARRT certification. Familiarity with Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), teleradiology platforms, and secure data transmission tools is crucial. Strong attention to detail, independent time management, and clear written communication are valuable soft skills for remote success. These competencies ensure accurate diagnostics, reliable collaboration with healthcare teams, and adherence to patient privacy standards while working remotely.

What are the typical challenges in remote radiography and how can they be addressed?

Remote radiography professionals often encounter challenges such as limited direct interaction with supervising radiologists and real-time clinical staff, which can make immediate feedback or clarification harder to access. Maintaining secure, stable internet connections and ensuring data privacy when transmitting sensitive imaging files are also critical considerations. Proactively establishing clear communication channels, adopting secure and reliable teleradiology technology, and participating in regular virtual team meetings can help overcome these challenges. Embracing these solutions enables remote radiographers to deliver timely, high-quality results and stay connected with their healthcare teams.

Can you do radiography remotely?

Remote radiography is generally not possible because radiographic imaging requires physical presence to operate equipment and position patients. However, radiographers can work remotely in roles such as image review, consultation, or reporting using digital imaging systems and secure telehealth platforms. Certification and specialized training are often necessary for remote work in radiography-related tasks.

Job description

Remote Outpatient Radiologist (Body Imaging | Neuroradiology | MSK)

Work From Home | Flexible Schedule | No Call | $650,000–$1M+ Earning Potential

Join a Physician-Led Outpatient Practice Built for Radiologists

Medical Scanning Consultants, PA is seeking Board Certified or Board Eligible radiologists to join our expanding physician-led teleradiology practice serving RAYUS Radiology's nationwide network of outpatient imaging centers.

If you're looking for a fully remote opportunity that offers predictable daytime hours, exceptional compensation, clinical autonomy, and a true work-life balance, we'd love to speak with you.

Whether your expertise is Body Imaging, Neuroradiology, Musculoskeletal Imaging, or Spine Imaging, you'll enjoy a practice designed around high-quality outpatient care—not emergency department volume or overnight call.

Why Physicians Choose Medical Scanning Consultants

  • 100% Remote Work
  • Outpatient-Only Practice
  • No Call, No Nights, No Weekends Required
  • Flexible Scheduling with Excellent Work-Life Balance
  • Primarily Read Within Your Subspecialty
  • Physician-Led Private Practice
  • Strong Referral Base with Consistent Case Volume
  • High Income Potential ($650,000–$1M+)
  • Multiple Compensation Models Available
  • Collegial, Long-Term Team Culture

About the Practice

Medical Scanning Consultants, PA provides professional radiology services for RAYUS Radiology, one of the nation's leading providers of outpatient diagnostic imaging.

Our continued growth has created abundant outpatient imaging volume supported by an established referral network and favorable payer mix. New physicians can quickly build a productive practice with a steady stream of high-quality cases.

More importantly, we believe great radiology groups are built on relationships—not simply productivity metrics. Our teleradiologists are valued members of our physician team, not anonymous readers assigned to a worklist. We prioritize collaboration, communication, and long-term professional satisfaction.

Position Highlights

This is a fully remote outpatient radiology position focused on high-quality diagnostic imaging.

Radiologists read primarily—and often exclusively—within their fellowship-trained subspecialty.

Current areas of greatest need include:

  • Body Imaging
  • Neuroradiology
  • Musculoskeletal Imaging
  • Spine Imaging

Additional opportunities may be available for physicians interested in:

  • PET/CT
  • Nuclear Medicine
  • Mammography

Participation in these areas is entirely optional.

What You'll Read

Depending on your subspecialty, your daily work may include:

Body Imaging

  • CT
  • MRI
  • Ultrasound
  • Limited radiography and DEXA

Neuroradiology / Spine

  • MRI
  • CT
  • Radiography

Typical daily volume ranges from approximately 50–100 outpatient studies depending on modality mix, reading style, and physician preference.

Because nearly all studies originate from outpatient imaging centers, the case mix is predictable, efficient, and optimized for workflow.

Flexibility That Fits Your Life

Unlike many teleradiology positions, this role is designed to provide physicians with meaningful flexibility.

There are:

  • No emergency department interruptions
  • No hospital dashboards
  • No inpatient responsibilities
  • No mandatory call schedule

As long as quality standards and turnaround expectations are met, physicians have significant control over their daily workflow and schedule.

Vacation scheduling is equally flexible through collaborative team coverage.

Compensation

We recognize that every physician values compensation differently, which is why we offer multiple employment options.

Available structures include:

  • 1099 Independent Contractor (per wRVU)
  • W-2 Employment
  • Pay-per-Click
  • Percentage of Collections
  • Base Salary plus Productivity Bonus

Experienced, high-producing radiologists have the opportunity to earn $1,000,000+ annually.

The Physician We're Looking For

We're seeking radiologists who combine clinical excellence with professionalism and collaboration.

Successful candidates are:

  • Patient-centered
  • Efficient without sacrificing quality
  • Dependable and responsive
  • Collegial team members
  • Strong communicators with referring providers

We value radiologists who understand that every study represents a patient—not simply another case on a worklist.

If you're looking for the freedom of remote practice while remaining connected to a supportive physician group, you'll find an excellent long-term home here.

Qualifications

  • ABR Board Certified or Board Eligible
  • Fellowship training preferred in:
    • Body Imaging
    • Neuroradiology
    • Musculoskeletal Imaging
    • Spine Imaging
  • Strong experience interpreting outpatient CT, MRI, Ultrasound, and Radiography within your area of expertise
  • Commitment to timely, accurate, clinically meaningful reporting
  • Active medical license in at least one U.S. state

Preferred State Licensure

Current practice needs are strongest for physicians licensed in:

  • Minnesota
  • Washington
  • Oregon
  • Utah
  • Indiana
  • Iowa
  • South Dakota
  • Tennessee

Additional state licenses are welcomed and may expand scheduling opportunities.

Apply Today

If you're interested in joining a physician-led outpatient practice that combines exceptional compensation, flexible remote work, and a collaborative culture, we encourage you to submit your CV and a brief statement of interest.

We look forward to discussing how your career goals align with the future of Medical Scanning Consultants, PA.
