Remote Quantum Software Engineer information

What is a remote quantum software engineer?

Remote Quantum Software Engineers are professionals who develop, test, and optimize software for quantum computers while working outside of a traditional office environment. They use their knowledge of quantum mechanics, computer science, and programming languages (such as Qiskit or Cirq) to create algorithms and applications that run on quantum hardware or simulators. These engineers collaborate with teams remotely, contributing to advancements in quantum computing, cryptography, and other cutting-edge fields. Their work often involves research, simulation, and integration of quantum solutions with classical computing systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote quantum software engineer?

To thrive as a Remote Quantum Software Engineer, you need strong knowledge of quantum mechanics, computer science fundamentals, and proficiency in programming languages like Python, as well as a relevant degree in physics, computer science, or engineering. Familiarity with quantum computing frameworks such as Qiskit, Cirq, or Q# and experience using cloud-based quantum platforms are typically required. Excellent problem-solving abilities, clear communication, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for collaborating remotely and advancing complex projects. These skills and qualities are essential for developing efficient quantum algorithms and effectively contributing to distributed teams in a cutting-edge, rapidly evolving field.

How do remote quantum software engineers typically collaborate with research and development teams across different time zones?

Remote Quantum Software Engineers often work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including physicists, algorithm developers, and hardware engineers. Collaboration is usually facilitated through digital communication tools like Slack, GitHub, and video conferencing, enabling team members to share code, research findings, and project updates asynchronously. Adapting to varying time zones may require flexibility with meeting schedules and clear documentation practices to ensure smooth handoffs and project continuity. This structure supports effective teamwork while allowing engineers to contribute from anywhere in the world.

What is the difference between Remote Quantum Software Engineer vs Quantum Software Developer?

AspectRemote Quantum Software EngineerQuantum Software Developer
Required CredentialsDegree in Computer Science, Physics, or related field; knowledge of quantum algorithmsSimilar credentials; often includes programming and physics background
Work EnvironmentRemote, collaborative teams, often in tech or research companiesRemote or on-site, primarily in research labs or tech firms
Industry UsageTech companies, startups, research institutionsResearch labs, tech firms, academia
Common Search/ComparisonYesYes

The main difference is that Remote Quantum Software Engineers typically focus on developing and implementing quantum algorithms remotely within tech or research teams, while Quantum Software Developers may be more involved in research or academic projects. Both roles require similar skills and credentials, but their work environments and industry applications can vary slightly.

How much does a remote quantum software engineer make?

Remote quantum software engineers typically earn between $100,000 and $150,000 annually, depending on experience, education, and the complexity of projects. Senior roles or those with specialized skills in quantum algorithms and programming languages like Qiskit or Cirq may offer higher salaries. Compensation can also vary based on the company's size and industry focus on quantum computing research or development.

About the Role

We're looking for a Software Engineer who enjoys building great software, learning quickly, and making a meaningful impact on a small, collaborative engineering team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a solid foundation in AI-driven software development who wants more ownership, greater exposure to product decisions, and the chance to work alongside experienced engineering leaders in a fast-paced SaaS environment.

You'll partner closely with Product and Engineering to design, build, test, and ship high-quality software while helping solve real customer problems. As part of a lean engineering team, you'll have the opportunity to contribute across the stack and see your work make an immediate impact.

Our technology stack includes PHP/Laravel, React, Angular, MySQL, AWS, Claude Code, and Datadog. You don't need experience with every technology we use. We're looking for engineers with strong software fundamentals and a command of AI technologies who enjoy learning new technologies and contributing wherever they're needed.

You'll do well here if you enjoy solving challenging problems, moving quickly, taking ownership, and building practical solutions without unnecessary process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design, development, testing, and deployment of features across our platform

  • Own projects from concept through production, including testing, deployment, monitoring, and post-release support

  • Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code while contributing to engineering best practices

  • Leverage AI development tools as part of your daily workflow

  • Participate in thoughtful code reviews and collaborate openly with teammates

  • Troubleshoot production issues, improve application performance, and enhance system reliability

  • Partner cross-functionally with Product, Design, Operations, and Customer Success to build scalable solutions

  • Maintain a customer-first mindset when making technical decisions

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications

  • 3–6 years of professional software engineering experience

  • Experience building modern web applications using one or more backend frameworks such as Laravel, Node.js, or similar

  • Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React

  • Experience integrating AI capabilities into customer-facing SaaS products in a production environment

  • A depth of knowledge of AI-assisted development and how AI can improve engineering workflows

  • Strong understanding of relational databases and modern web application architecture

  • Demonstrated ownership and accountability, with the ability to independently drive projects and proactively solve problems

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud

  • Familiarity with modern deployment practices, CI/CD pipelines, containerization, or observability tools is a plus

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field preferred, or equivalent practical experience

You'll Thrive Here If You...

  • Enjoy learning new technologies and tackling new challenges

  • Like working on a small team where your ideas matter

  • Take ownership and follow projects through to completion

  • Are collaborative, curious, and open to feedback

  • Want to build software that customers rely on every day

  • Are excited about using AI to become a more effective engineer

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary of $120,000–$165,000 depending on experience, plus annual bonus opportunity

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance

  • 401(k)

  • Very generous PTO

  • Fully remote within the United States

  • Opportunity to work directly with Engineering leadership and influence a growing platform

  • Small, collaborative, low-ego engineering team with meaningful ownership and visibility

  • Professional development and career growth opportunities

  • Mission-driven work that helps improve community safety across the country
