Quality Engineer

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to support manufacturing quality, process improvement, and continuous improvement initiatives within a fast-paced automotive manufacturing environment. This position will work closely with manufacturing, engineering, and customers to maintain quality standards, resolve product and process issues, and drive measurable improvements in quality performance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement quality control plans based on product specifications and customer requirements.
  • Conduct product and process inspections, testing, and audits to ensure compliance with established quality standards.
  • Investigate product defects and non-conformances, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Lead and support scrap reduction, process improvement, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor statistical process capability, on-time delivery, scrap, and other key quality metrics.
  • Review PFMEAs and Control Plans to ensure manufacturing operations comply with established requirements.
  • Apply structured problem-solving methodologies including 8D, 5-Why, SPC, DOE, Six Sigma, and Red-X.
  • Develop and maintain quality documentation, including inspection procedures, work instructions, reports, and related records.
  • Perform regularly scheduled product and process audits and participate in internal quality system audits.
  • Provide technical quality support to manufacturing teams and maintain a strong presence on the production floor.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, operations, and other cross-functional teams to resolve quality and process issues.
  • Communicate directly with customers regarding quality concerns, corrective actions, and ongoing quality performance.
  • Support project planning, scheduling, and execution of quality-related initiatives.
  • Provide clear documentation and communication regarding quality issues, project status, corrective actions, and performance.
  • Maintain a high level of accountability and urgency while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of Quality Engineering experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Automotive manufacturing experience required.
  • Experience with transfer molding, compression molding, or comparable molding processes required.
  • Strong knowledge of quality assurance, quality control, and manufacturing quality principles.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 quality management systems.
  • Experience with PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, 8D, 5-Why, DOE, Six Sigma, and other structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Certified Internal Auditor for ISO 9001 and/or IATF 16949 through a third party or employer-sponsored program.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Minitab; experience with SPC software such as Pro-Link is a plus.
  • Knowledge of measurement systems, inspection methods, and manufacturing quality processes.
  • GD&T and CMM experience is a plus.
  • ASQ certifications, including CQE, are a plus.
  • Knowledge of automotive brake pads or braking systems is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, technical writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and cross-functional technical teams.
  • Comfortable spending approximately 80% of working time on the manufacturing floor.
