Remote Quality Engineer Medical Device information

What does a remote quality engineer in the medical device industry do?

A Remote Quality Engineer in the medical device industry is responsible for ensuring that medical products meet regulatory and quality standards while working from a remote location. Their duties often include reviewing and improving quality processes, conducting audits, analyzing data to identify trends or issues, and ensuring compliance with regulations such as FDA or ISO 13485. They collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues and may also be involved in risk management and validation activities. Remote Quality Engineers use digital tools to communicate and manage documentation, making it possible to fulfill their role away from a traditional office or manufacturing environment.

How does a remote quality engineer in the medical device industry effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams despite working off-site?

Remote Quality Engineers in the medical device sector regularly use digital collaboration tools such as video conferencing, shared documentation platforms, and cloud-based quality management systems to stay connected with design, manufacturing, and regulatory teams. While working remotely poses challenges in terms of immediate access to physical devices and face-to-face communication, frequent virtual meetings and clear documentation help ensure alignment on project goals and compliance requirements. Building strong relationships with on-site team members and proactively seeking feedback are key strategies for maintaining effective collaboration and ensuring product quality.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote quality engineer in medical devices, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Quality Engineer in Medical Devices, you need a solid background in quality assurance, regulatory compliance (such as FDA and ISO 13485), and engineering principles, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree. Proficiency with quality management systems (QMS), document control software, and risk assessment tools is common, and certifications like ASQ CQE are highly valued. Strong attention to detail, effective problem-solving, and clear remote communication skills help ensure compliance and collaboration across distributed teams. These abilities are crucial for maintaining product safety, meeting regulatory standards, and driving continuous improvement in a regulated industry.

As a part of our exciting growth initiatives, we are continuing to build relationships in emerging markets and recruiting new talent. By hiring the best people and helping each other grow both professionally and personally, we ensure a bright future for our employee owners and our clients.
We want our employee-owners to be fully engaged - at home, at work, and in their communities. We provide our employees with a full range of benefits including comprehensive medical, vision, and dental plans, paid time off (as well as volunteer time off), company match 401k, participation in our Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP), technical training and career development resources, and access to our wellness program. Renewable energy and infrastructure projects are largescale developments that generate electricity and move it across long distances. These are utilityscale projects that require engineering, construction, and gridintegration work to expand and strengthen the energy system.

Mission critical projects are landintensive developments that create unique geotechnical challenges, such as major grade changes, heavily loaded structures, complex belowgrade utility and duct bank networks, and fastpaced construction schedules. Their speed and complexity demand close oversight to quickly identify and resolve issues, reduce risk for all stakeholders, and provide the technical expertise needed to exceed client expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform oversight of other field personnel on remote job sites.
  • Perform various field testing and observations at remote job sites.
  • Assist field operations on remote projects with technician training and review.
  • Closely coordinate field observations with engineering project lead.
  • Develop scopes of work and prepare proposals for moderate to complex geotechnical engineering projects, primarily in the power and renewables or mission critical field.
  • Prepare proposals for moderate to complex projects.
  • Review field logs and soil samples for classification and boring log preparation.
  • Perform engineering analysis using company and industry methodologies.
  • Prepares engineering reports for senior review.
  • Manage routine to complex geotechnical engineering projects including project scope, schedule, budget, and safety.
  • Work independently on specific assignments of limited scope with Senior review.
  • Perform quality review of work performed by assigned staff; identify, investigate, and resolve internal and external quality issues on projects.
  • Coordinate with regional operations to effectively coordinate staff, resources, and workloads.
  • Ensure client expectations are met or exceeded.
  • Support client relationships to effectively achieve power, renewables, and mission critical market-sector goals and strategies.
  • Must be action oriented, able to effectively/efficiently manage time, and able to learn quickly.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess strong analytical skills and high attention to detail.
  • Strong organization and customer service skills.
  • Ability to exceed client expectations while thriving in a time critical / dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint.
  • Ability to create, maintain, and communicate project budgets

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (BS) ingeotechnical, civil, or related engineering field required.
  • Two or more years of construction materials testing or geotechnical engineering experience preferred, but not required.
  • Previous experience with large-scale construction projects preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Expected travel is 60 to 90%.

Braun Intertec offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k) plan, PTO, Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP), paid holidays, paid volunteer day, tuition reimbursement, and opportunities for professional growth and development.
