Job description

RRC is seeking a talented Electrical Engineer III - BESS to help us build the future of both U.S. and Canada energy production from both remote work locations and any one of our U.S. or Canadian office locations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the design and development of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), including DC systems, medium voltage infrastructure, switchgear, and distribution systems 
  • Perform and oversee system studies, including load flow, short circuit, ampacity, and loss analysis 
  • Manage and coordinate engineering tasks across multiple projects, ensuring that projects are within scope, schedule, and budget 
  • Serve as a point of contact for clients, interpreting needs and delivering engineering solutions 
  • Review and approve manufacturer equipment drawings and technical submittals 
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, QA/QC procedures, and project specifications 
  • Perform quality control and quality checking on project deliverables, including drawings and studies
  • Identify design risks and implement corrective actions
  • Coordinate with project managers, BESS leadership, and multi-disciplinary teams to ensure successful project delivery 
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of engineering standards and best practices 
  • Work with team on changing trends in technology

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or related field 
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering with a renewable energy focus preferred 
  • 5+ years of experience in BESS, renewable energy, distribution, or medium voltage power systems 
  • Professional Engineer (P. Eng) license or ability to obtain 
  • Experience designing medium and low voltage cabling systems 
  • Knowledge of switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, breakers, and protection systems 
  • Experience with battery container systems, EMS and BMS
  • Experience designing inverter / PCS (Power Conversion System) equipment
  • Strong familiarity with applicable industry codes and standards (IEEE, NESC, NEC, NFPA) 
  • Experience performing system studies using software such as CYME, ETAP, or similar 
  • Experience with modeling tools such as HOMER, Energy Toolbase, ESWare, or similar 
  • Experience with solar (PV) and wind systems preferred
  • Construction or field experience preferred
  • Experience with BESS interconnections to transmission, distribution, substations, and renewable generation facilities preferred
