Job description

THIS POSITION IS A TRAVELING OPERATOR ROLE SUPPORTING PROJECTS IN MARKETS ALL ACROSS THE UNITED STATES. A CLASS A CDL WILL BE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

The Operator III will be using equipment such as mini-excavators, trenchers, plows, and reel trailers to perform duties of installation, operation, repair, and maintenance of Telecommunications outside plant including fiber, copper and coax. Daily work will involve traveling to different job site locations, survey, plan and execute placing client facilities. As the Operator III is the senior operator role in the organization, this position is also responsible for training and coaching new hires and others in similar roles.

WHAT YOU GET TO DO

  • Reviewing blueprints or other plans to determine where and how to place plants.
  • Analyze job locations for utility lines, permitting, and traffic control to complete construction activities without quality defects, safety incidents or any type of property damage.
  • Read and understand utility locations and above ground indicators to ensure the safety of the crew and a high level of productivity.
  • Complete daily inspections and reporting of maintenance issues on vehicles, trailers, and equipment.
  • Perform service, safety checks, check oil and fluids, and minor repairs on equipment.
  • Perform construction work such as digging holes, setting handholes/peds and placing duct to poles.
  • Strive for optimal production while working safely and performing quality work.
  • Ensures all work is performed to quality standard while always complying with proper safety standards/procedures and work practices/policies & procedures according to EPC and OSHA/ANSI standards.
  • Maintain quality and cleanliness of tools, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Train new hires and other colleagues on job-related tasks.

WHAT WILL HELP YOU STAND OUT

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License.
  • Valid Class A CDL required.
  • At least 5 years’ prior experience operating related heavy equipment is required.
  • Prior experience operating relevant heavy equipment in a utilities construction environment around live utilities is required.
  • OSHA 30 Certification is required.
  • Green Belt Certification is required.
  • Heavy Equipment Operator Certification is required.
  • Knowledge of reading prints.
  • Ability to operate equipment, including, but not limited to power tools, electronic testing equipment, air compressor and heavy equipment such as bucket truck etc.
  • Must have the ability to work safely, with or without supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Prior experience identifying above or below ground utilities or hazards.
