What are Remote Python jobs?

Remote Python jobs are positions where you work primarily with the Python programming language but do so from a location outside of a traditional office, such as your home or another remote location. These jobs can include roles like software developer, data analyst, backend engineer, or machine learning engineer, all of which use Python for building applications, analyzing data, or automating tasks. Remote Python jobs are popular due to Python's versatility and the growing demand for flexible work arrangements in the tech industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Python Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Python Developer, you need strong programming skills in Python, experience with software development life cycles, and a relevant degree or professional experience. Familiarity with tools like Git, Docker, cloud platforms (e.g., AWS), and frameworks such as Django or Flask is typically required, along with knowledge of remote collaboration tools like Slack and Jira. Excellent problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for remote team integration and project delivery. These skills ensure efficient, high-quality code development, seamless teamwork, and the ability to meet project goals independently in a remote environment.

What Are Remote Jobs That Use Python?

Remote jobs that use Python focus on coding software and applications to meet the needs or business objectives of your employer. This may involve working with a database, customizing an existing application, or otherwise modifying software based on its expected environment. You can also find a few remote roles that allow you to teach Python instead of using it. Many remote jobs that use Python also involve coding in other common languages as necessary—Python may be the bulk of the work, but the ability to switch to other modes of programming as needed is essential for success in this field. As a remote employee or independent contractor, you may use virtual office software to coordinate with others, upload software into a central database for testing, or work odd hours to meet the needs of your client.

Job description

Sr Software Developer/ GCP ( Remote )

Think of TEKsystems Global Services (TGS) as the growth solution for enterprises today. We unleash growth through technology, strategy, design, execution and operations with a customer-first mindset for bold business leaders. We deliver cloud, data and customer experience solutions. Our partnerships with leading cloud, design and business intelligence platforms fuel our expertise. We value deep relationships, dedication to serving others and inclusion. We drive positive outcomes for our people and our business, and we stay true to our commitments and act in harmony with our words. We exist to create significant opportunity for people to achieve fulfillment through career success.

Ready to join us?

Here’s what the opportunity supported through our TGS Talent Acquisition Team requires:

The Senior Software Developer is a hands-on technical contributor responsible for designing, building, modernizing, migrating, deploying, and maintaining high-quality software solutions across client and internal initiatives. This role balances strong software engineering fundamentals with practical Google Cloud Platform experience, including application modernization, cloud migration support, cloud-native delivery, and modern DevOps practices. Success requires depth in at least one primary programming language, strong application design and testing discipline, and the ability to deliver reliable applications and services that operate effectively in cloud environments.

Senior Developers are expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy, contribute to architectural and technical decisions, mentor less-Senior engineers, and actively improve delivery, reliability, and operational excellence across teams.

Top 3 Hiring Priorities

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and depth in a primary language (e.g., Java, Python, C#, JavaScript/TypeScript), demonstrated through clean design, maintainable code, testability, API development, performance awareness, and sound technical trade-offs.
  • Practical GCP migration and modernization experience, including assessing existing applications, supporting migration planning, adapting workloads for Google Cloud, and helping teams move from legacy or on-premises environments to cloud-ready architectures.
  • Balanced delivery across application development and DevOps practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, Infrastructure as Code with Terraform, containers, Kubernetes/GKE, and operational practices that support reliable production software.

Core Responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, and maintain production-grade software systems aligned with business and technical requirements.

• Build and enhance applications, APIs, services, integrations, and data access layers with attention to clean architecture, maintainability, security, performance, and cloud readiness.

• Contribute across the full software development lifecycle, including analysis, design, estimation, development, testing, deployment, and support.

• Support GCP migration and application modernization efforts by analyzing existing systems, identifying refactoring needs, adapting services for cloud deployment, and validating migrated workloads.

• Collaborate with DevOps, platform, and cloud migration teams to improve CI/CD, deployment automation, infrastructure-enabled delivery, and repeatable migration patterns using tools such as Terraform, containers, and Kubernetes/GKE.

• Actively participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and technical decision-making, providing clear rationale and trade-off analysis.

• Mentor junior and mid-level developers through code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance.

• Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices, including automation, cloud readiness, operational maturity, and supportability.

Technical Profile - Required Strengths

Software Engineering Expertise

• Very strong expertise in at least one primary programming language, such as:

o Java, C#, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or equivalent

• Demonstrated ability to design clean, maintainable, well tested codebases, including strong familiarity with automated testing (unit/integration) and ownership of component level test strategy for the systems they build and support.

• Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including:

o Data structures and algorithms

o API design and integration

o Modular and layered architectures

o Object-oriented, functional, and service-oriented design patterns

o Performance and scalability considerations

o Debugging, refactoring, code review, and technical debt reduction

Application Breadth

• Strong preference for backend and cloud-native development experience, with hands-on work across:

o APIs, services, integrations, and data access layers

o Cloud-hosted application components and distributed service patterns

o Containerized application delivery and runtime considerations

• Front-end experience is a plus, but this role is primarily focused on backend, API, service, and cloud-enabled application development with enough platform awareness to support migration and modernization work.

DevOps & Delivery Practices

• Strong experience with modern DevOps practices, including:

o CI/CD pipelines

o Infrastructure as Code (IaC), especially Terraform

o Automated testing and deployment

o Observability, logging, and monitoring

• Practical experience supporting software delivery with tools and platforms such as Git, CI/CD platforms, containers, Kubernetes, and GKE.

• Ability to work effectively with platform and infrastructure concerns, including deployment patterns, environment configuration, and operational support.

• A mindset focused on operability, reliability, and automation, not just code delivery.

GCP Migration & Cloud Platform Experience

• Strong experience with Google Cloud Platform is preferred, including migrating, modernizing, building, deploying, and supporting applications in GCP environments.

• Experience supporting cloud migration and modernization activities, including workload assessment, dependency analysis, application refactoring, environment configuration, data/service integration, and post-migration validation.

o GCP services relevant to application hosting, integration, migration, runtime operations, and modernization

o Networking, security, and identity concepts

o Managed services across compute, storage, and supporting platform capabilities

o Scalability, resilience, and supportability considerations

o Migration patterns such as rehosting, replatforming, refactoring, containerization, and incremental modernization

• Experience with AWS or Azure is a plus, but stronger depth in GCP is preferred for this engagement.

AI Skills & Tool Usage

• Demonstrated experience using AI assisted development tools to improve productivity, quality, and learning (e.g., code generation, refactoring, testing, documentation).

• Basic familiarity with AI enabled application patterns, such as:

o Integrating hosted AI services or APIs

o Using AI for data processing, search, or automation use cases

• Ability to evaluate AI tools pragmatically, understanding benefits, limitations, and responsible use within enterprise and client contexts.

• Willingness to continuously upskill as AI tooling and platforms evolve

Professional Expectations

• Owns complex and/or ambiguous features end to end, drives technical decisions within scope, and mentors others through that ambiguity.

• Communicates clearly with both technical and non technical stakeholders.

• Comfortable working across multiple projects or domains as GE NA demand shifts.

• Balances delivery speed with code quality, stability, and long term maintainability.

• Contributes positively to team culture and knowledge sharing.

Experience & Education

• Typically 7+ years of professional software development experience (or equivalent demonstrated capability).

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred, or equivalent practical experience.

• Relevant technical certifications (cloud, DevOps, etc.) are a plus but not required.
