What is a Remote Python Network Programmer?

A Remote Python Network Programmer is a software developer who specializes in building and maintaining networked applications using the Python programming language, while working from a remote location. Their work often involves creating scripts or applications to manage network connections, automate network tasks, handle data transfers, and interact with protocols such as HTTP, TCP/IP, and sockets. These professionals may work on cloud-based systems, APIs, or distributed applications, and are skilled in both Python and networking concepts. Remote roles allow them to collaborate with teams and manage network infrastructure from anywhere in the world.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Python Network Programmer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Python Network Programmer, you need strong proficiency in Python, a solid understanding of networking protocols, and experience with network programming concepts, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Wireshark, libraries such as socket and asyncio, and knowledge of version control systems like Git are typically required. Exceptional problem-solving skills, self-motivation, and clear written communication are important soft skills for remote collaboration and troubleshooting. These abilities ensure reliable network solutions, efficient teamwork, and effective project delivery in distributed environments.

How does collaboration typically work for remote Python network programmers working with distributed teams?

Remote Python network programmers often collaborate closely with cross-functional teams using various communication and project management tools. Daily stand-ups, code reviews, and pair programming sessions are commonly conducted over video calls and chat platforms to ensure seamless integration of network applications. Clear documentation and version control (e.g., Git) play a crucial role in keeping everyone aligned, especially when troubleshooting network protocols or deploying updates. The remote setup requires strong self-management skills and proactive communication to address potential challenges, such as debugging network issues across different environments.

What is the difference between Remote Python Network Programming vs Remote Python Web Development?

Job description

Location: Remote Onshore, US Citizen | Type: Full-Time | Experience: 4-6+ years | Stack: Python/Django • React • AWS/GCP Compensation: $100k-$120k base, 10% bonus, + equity
About Grapefruit Health
Grapefruit Health is a healthcare tech-enabled services company that is addressing the massive staffing shortage in healthcare. We do this by training and managing clinical students to perform remote, telephonic interactions with patients using our web application. By doing this, we can close gaps in care at half the cost and twice the speed. Patients get the care they need, healthcare organizations can do much more, and you get to learn while you earn. It is a win-win-win!
The Role
We are looking for a Full Stack Engineer who thrives on ownership and loves building products that work in the real world. You will be hands-on across the entire stack - from architecting backend systems to shipping polished frontend features - and will play a key role in shaping how our platform evolves. This is a high-trust, high-autonomy role on a lean engineering team where your decisions matter and your work ships.
You will work closely with clinical, product, and operations teams to build tools that directly impact patients and the clinicians who care for them. If you want to write code that means something, this is the place.
What You'll Do
Core Engineering
  • Design, build, and maintain full stack features across our platform
  • Own backend architecture and API design using Python/Django and JavaScript
  • Develop performant frontend applications using React and modern JavaScript
  • Architect and integrate microservices and third-party systems (e.g. Twilio, messaging, analytics tools)
  • Debug complex production issues across distributed systems - frontend, backend, and infrastructure
  • Improve system reliability, observability, and performance
  • Contribute to infrastructure and DevOps (AWS/GCP, CI/CD, IaC)
  • Write clean, testable, and scalable code; enforce best practices through code reviews

Technical Leadership & Growth
  • Drive technical decision-making and influence architecture
  • Stay current with modern tools, frameworks, and best practices
  • Identify inefficiencies and proactively improve systems and processes
  • Take ownership of ambiguous problems and deliver solutions
What We're Looking For
Experience - Required
  • 4-6+ years of professional software development experience
  • Proven experience owning features or systems end-to-end in production
  • Strong backend development with Python/Django and JavaScript
  • Advanced API design and integration - REST, async workflows, webhooks
  • Frontend development with React and modern JavaScript
  • Cloud platforms: AWS and/or GCP (compute, networking, storage, monitoring)
  • Experience integrating and managing external services and microservices (e.g. Twilio, third-party APIs)
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills across the full stack

Infrastructure & Data
  • PostgreSQL and data modeling
  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar)
  • CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows
  • Experience with logging, monitoring, and observability tools

Development Practices
  • Unit and integration testing
  • Git-based workflows (GitHub)
  • Agile/project management tools (e.g. Jira)

Nice to Have
  • Healthcare or health-tech experience
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, SOC 2, or HITRUST environments
Who You Are
You thrive when you...
  • Debug issues others get stuck on
  • Work across the stack and into infrastructure
  • Own problems from discovery to production
  • Balance speed with long-term scalability
  • Stay curious and keep learning
  • Communicate clearly across technical and non-technical teams
  • Bring positive energy and show up reliably

This probably isn't for you if...
  • You need a large team and heavy process to ship
  • You prefer being handed fully-defined specs
  • You avoid production incidents or on-call responsibility
  • You want to specialize narrowly in one layer of the stack
Compensation & Benefits
Base Salary $100,000 - $120,000 depending on experience
Bonus up to 10% annually
Equity Details discussed during process
Benefits Health, dental, vision, 401k - details provided during interviews
