SENIOR GIS TECHNICIAN

Full-Time


POSITION SUMMARY

Join our team as a highly skilled Senior GIS Technician to support complex utility and pipeline initiatives through advanced geospatial analysis, enterprise GIS administration, and application support. This role partners closely with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders to design, implement, and optimize GIS workflows, data models, and mapping solutions that support critical electric and gas utility operations.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in ArcGIS Pro and enterprise GIS environments, with hands-on experience building web map applications, developing dashboards and interactive mapping solutions, and performing Python and Arcade scripting tasks to automate workflows, enhance data quality, and improve operational efficiency. Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to advancing geospatial systems and processes are essential.

COMPENSATION

  • Salary Range: $22.50 to $30.00 per hour ($46,800 to $62,400 annually)

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Creates presentations and workflow diagrams for GIS processes and results.
  • Supports and troubleshoots business users with GIS applications.
  • Builds web map applications, dashboards, and interactive GIS solutions to support operational and client workflows.
  • Performs Python and Arcade scripting tasks to automate workflows, improve data quality, and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Develops project plans in collaboration with others.
  • Effectively communicates related GIS initiatives to others.
  • Consults with end users to create documentation relating to the program definition, development and business requirements. Documentation includes software objectives, deliverables, and end user specifications.
  • Analyses test results, formulates modifications, and implements solutions to problem areas.
  • Prepares and writes reports for management and/or team members on the status of the programming process.
  • Trains end users to operate new or modified programs.
  • Conducts research on emerging application development software, languages, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
  • Works with external vendors to ensure efficient implementation of software products or systems.
  • Keeps abreast of new and emerging technological advances in program languages, utilities, tools and client/server technology to ensure achievement of optimum results.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelors degree in GIS or a related field.
  • 35 years of professional experience performing complex geospatial analysis, developing mapping solutions, and supporting enterprise GIS environments.
  • Experience within the Gas Utilities or Energy sector.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical or complex concepts to internal and external customers with varying levels of technical knowledge.
  • Experience building web map applications, dashboards, and interactive GIS solutions using Esri technologies.
  • Experience performing Python and Arcade scripting tasks to automate workflows, improve data quality, and support operational efficiencies.
  • Ability to perform algebraic, trigonometric, and geometric calculations, including analyses involving ratios, percentages, and moderately complex statistical or accounting methods.
  • Advanced computer skills, including the ability to use and understand programming or scripting languages for writing, modifying, and executing programs.
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • GE Smallworld / Gas Distribution Office
    • Esri Utility Network (UN)
    • Esri Utility Pipeline Database Model (UPDM)
    • Esri ArcGIS Pro
    • Esri ArcGIS Enterprise and Portal
    • ArcGIS Online
    • Esri Web AppBuilder and/or Experience Builder
    • Esri Field Operations and Mobile Applications
    • SQL Server
    • Python, Arcade, and SQL scripting


Preferred:

  • Experience with SAP.
  • Experience with Construction Management Applications.
  • Experience supporting large, complex utility or energy-sector GIS environments.

  • Flexibility to work across U.S. time zones as needed.
  • Must be able to work legally in the US without sponsorship.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid TSA Known Traveler Number (KTN) as required by client and project security requirements.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
