Job Title: Edge Ops/Edge Technical Architect
Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid - local candidates strongly preferred)
Employment Type: W2, Contract to Hire and Direct Hire (Full-Time)
Overview
Our client is seeking a Senior GCP Edge Technical Architect to lead the design, deployment, and optimization of Google Distributed Cloud Edge (GDCE) environments. This role requires deep expertise in GCP Edge architecture, implementation, and integration, with supporting experience in Kubernetes, Terraform, and cloud-native automation. The successful candidate will serve as a strategic advisor and hands-on engineer, ensuring secure, scalable, and resilient Edge deployments across the enterprise.
Key Responsibilities
  • Architect and implement Google Distributed Cloud Edge solutions aligned to enterprise needs.
  • Define best practices for Edge workloads, connectivity, and distributed architecture.
  • Deploy, scale, and manage Kubernetes (GKE/Anthos) clusters within Edge environments.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning using Terraform (advanced modules, remote state, workspaces).
  • Implement secure authentication/authorization models (Cloud IAM, RBAC, Workload Identity Federation).
  • Collaborate with client teams to design resilient solutions that meet performance, scalability, and compliance requirements.
  • Provide hands-on leadership in cloud-native architecture, CI/CD pipelines, and platform observability.

Required Skills & Experience
  • 10+ years in IT infrastructure architecture, cloud engineering, or DevOps.
  • Deep, hands-on expertise with Google Distributed Cloud Edge (GDCE).
  • Advanced knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services and architectural patterns.
  • Strong Kubernetes/GKE administration experience within distributed environments.
  • Proven ability to automate with Terraform at scale.
  • Proficiency with Python scripting for infrastructure automation.
  • Strong background in cloud security, including encryption, VPC design, and service account management.

Preferred Skills
  • Experience with Anthos on-prem and hybrid deployments.
  • Familiarity with service mesh technologies (e.g., Istio).
  • Expertise in monitoring/observability with Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry.
