Job description

McGuireWoods LLP is seeking a Senior Financial Systems Analyst to join the team in our Pittsburgh, PA office. The Senior Financial Systems Analyst has primary IT responsibility for administration and support of the firm’s accounting and finance applications. This includes the primary accounting system, time entry, conflicts, collections, matter opening, and financial reporting. The position will also need to develop and execute ad hoc queries, custom reports, and data workflow processes. The Sr. Financial Systems Analyst also acts as a technical lead for projects involving billing system upgrades or enhancements; working with Accounting, IT, and other departments to plan and implement project requirements. The position works with other Financial Systems Analyst(s) as a team leader and is expected to coordinate tasks with the Financial Systems Analyst, cooperate on projects, delegate tasks, and act as a mentor and knowledge source.

  • Provide primary administration and support tasks related to the Elite 3E billing system. This can include but is not limited to:
    • Schedule month-end maintenance periods.
    • Upgrades to 3E, Time Tracking systems, and other related software systems.
    • Coordinate with database and application administrators on projects which are related to the billing system.
    • Provide 3rd level support and resolve escalated incidents for the Elite and Time Tracking systems.
  • Provide administration and support for other systems that integrate with 3E which includes Chrome River, ARCS, IntApp Risk, IntApp Time, Electronic Records Destruction, and McGuireWoods custom budgeting software.
  • Manage, monitor, and maintain data integration and data flow between 3E and other firm systems.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for 3E and work with the accounting team in developing the project plans for deployment of new technology or integrations.
  • Serve as a senior technical resource and mentor, providing guidance, best practices, and operational stability for the Elite 3E environment.
  • Participate in new technology testing, deployment and support related to accounting systems.
  • Provide custom data extractions for use by accounting staff for analysis.
  • Prepare documentation on financial application processes and procedures; maintain documentation to include any updates or changes to process.
  • Coordinate with accounting and finance management, as well as IT management, to prioritize and address issues and objectives for financial systems.
  • Drive efficiency and effectiveness by streamlining, standardizing, and automating processes and reporting requirements.
  • Test financial system applications during system changes, enhancements, upgrades, and monthly system maintenance.
  • Oversee ad-hoc analyses of revenue system processes and data to support future billing.
  • Perform development work as it relates to the applications, automation, scripting, etc.
  • Update ticket tracking program and open, assign and track incidents for reported problems. Document problems and resolutions including identification of root cause and close tickets as appropriate.

  • Five years of experience in a legal or corporate IT role, preferably supporting and customizing financial systems.
  • Three years of experience administering and/or supporting Elite 3E or a comparable accounting system.
  • Deep hands-on experience supporting Elite 3E in a production environment, including upgrades, maintenance, and issue resolution, is strongly preferred. Experience in an on-prem environment preferred.
  • Experience planning and executing system upgrades, patches, and enhancements, including coordination with vendors, testing, and post-deployment support.
  • Strong understanding of law firm accounting transaction workflows, including time entry, billing, collections, matter lifecycle, and related system interfaces.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical financial systems in a production environment, including incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident improvement.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2022 or higher.
    • Strong T-SQL scripting experience.
    • Familiarity with query tools and SQL Server Reporting Services.
    • Extract Transform Load (ETL).
  • Knowledge of relational databases required.
  • XML experience preferred.
  • Power BI experience preferred.
    • Ability to design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports for financial data visualization.
    • Familiarity with DAX queries and data modeling within Power BI.
  • Python experience preferred.
    • Experience using Python for data extraction, transformation, and automation of financial reporting workflows.
    • Familiarity with relevant libraries such as pandas, openpyxl, or pyodbc for database and file interaction.
  • PowerShell scripting experience preferred.
    • Ability to write and maintain PowerShell scripts for system administration, task automation, and scheduled jobs.
    • Experience leveraging PowerShell for integration tasks between financial applications and other firm systems.
  • Microsoft Office 365 experience is required. Power User capabilities are preferred.
  • Math skills are helpful.
  • Soft Skills:
