Remote Public Accounting involves working with multiple clients, often requiring CPA certification, and is common in accounting firms. Both roles can be performed remotely, but their focus and employer types differ.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote public accountant?

To thrive as a Remote Public Accountant, you need a solid background in accounting principles, financial reporting, and tax regulations, generally supported by a bachelor’s degree in accounting and CPA certification. Familiarity with accounting software like QuickBooks, Xero, or SAP, and secure file-sharing systems is typically required. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective virtual communication set outstanding professionals apart in remote environments. These skills ensure accurate financial management, regulatory compliance, and seamless client collaboration, all crucial for success in a distributed work setting.

How do remote public accountants typically collaborate with clients and team members while working from home?

Remote public accountants often rely on secure digital platforms and cloud-based accounting software to share documents and communicate with clients and colleagues. Regular video meetings, instant messaging, and project management tools help maintain clear communication and track progress on multiple engagements. While remote work offers flexibility, it also requires strong organizational skills and proactive communication to ensure deadlines are met and client needs are addressed efficiently.

What is remote public accounting?

Remote public accounting refers to providing accounting, auditing, tax, and consulting services to clients while working outside of a traditional office environment, typically from home or another remote location. This setup leverages technology to communicate with clients, share documents securely, and perform accounting tasks online. Remote public accountants can work for accounting firms or as independent contractors, serving clients across various industries. The flexibility of remote work can improve work-life balance and expand job opportunities, but it also requires strong self-discipline, communication skills, and familiarity with digital accounting tools.

Job description

Ready for more than another busy season?

A growing CPA firm is seeking an experienced Remote Tax Supervisor to join its team. This opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with clients, mentoring staff, and playing an active role in the success of both the tax practice and the people around them.

This isn't a role where you'll simply review returns and move on to the next file. You'll have the opportunity to build relationships with business owners and high-net-worth individuals, provide thoughtful tax guidance, and help develop the next generation of tax professionals. The firm values collaboration, communication, and initiative, giving experienced professionals the ability to make a meaningful impact while maintaining the flexibility of a remote schedule.

The work includes a broad mix of tax engagements involving individuals, partnerships, S corporations, corporations, and trusts and estates. In addition to compliance, you'll have exposure to planning opportunities, research projects, and complex tax matters that require both technical knowledge and practical problem-solving.

The ideal candidate has several years of public accounting experience and has grown into a leadership role through reviewing returns, managing deadlines, and serving as a trusted resource for both clients and team members. A CPA license is preferred, but experienced EAs and CPA candidates with strong public accounting backgrounds are also encouraged to apply.

This opportunity offers the chance to join a firm that values its people, provides direct access to leadership, and offers a clear path for continued advancement. Whether you're a seasoned Tax Supervisor looking for a long-term home or a Tax Senior ready to step into leadership, this could be the next step you've been working toward.

If you're interested in exploring a fully remote opportunity where your experience is valued and your career can continue to grow, we'd love to connect.

Apply today to learn more.
