What is a remote psychologist?

A remote psychologist is a licensed mental health professional who provides psychological services, such as therapy, counseling, and assessments, through online platforms rather than in person. This allows clients to receive support from the comfort of their homes using video calls, phone calls, or secure messaging. Remote psychologists follow the same ethical and professional standards as traditional psychologists, ensuring confidentiality and quality care. This approach increases accessibility for individuals who may have mobility issues, live in remote areas, or have busy schedules.

What does a remote psychologist do?

As a remote psychologist, your job is to provide mental health therapy and treatment for a client. In this position, you monitor patient behavior, use clinical techniques to identify their conditions, and determine the best way to treat their unique needs. Since this is a remote position, you may use a video recorder or webcam to help create a virtual office where you can see and talk with patients. Many remote psychologists specialize in a particular area, such as children's psychology, inmate rehabilitation, or veterans' health. Most sessions are scheduled ahead of time, but you may be asked to work with a client outside of regular hours if they have a breakdown and need your support.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote psychologist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Psychologist, you need a graduate degree in psychology, state licensure, and expertise in mental health assessment and therapeutic interventions. Familiarity with telehealth platforms, electronic health records, and secure communication tools is crucial for delivering remote care. Strong active listening, empathy, digital communication skills, and self-motivation help build rapport and trust with clients online. These skills ensure ethical, effective, and accessible mental health support in a virtual environment.

What are some common challenges remote psychologists face when building rapport with clients, and how can these be addressed?

Remote psychologists often encounter challenges in establishing strong therapeutic relationships due to the lack of in-person cues and potential technical disruptions. To overcome these, it's important to create a comfortable and private virtual environment, use clear verbal communication, and be intentional about expressing empathy and attentiveness. Regularly checking in on clients' comfort with the technology and addressing any concerns about confidentiality can also help foster trust. Building rapport remotely may take a bit more time, but with consistent effort and adaptability, meaningful client connections can be achieved.

Job description

About WellQor:

WellQor is a patient centered, full-service psychological practice accessible online. We put our long-term personal relationships with clients at the heart of everything we do, so each person feels the esteem and confidence that comes from feeling consistently loved, supported, and valued. We’re not a tech giant, directory service, or gig-work platform. We're a collaborative mental health practice that marries the best of traditional and innovative approaches to pursue the best possible outcomes for our clinicians and our clients.

Unlike other online providers, our clinical therapists are one member of a team, collaborating with peers and a Clinical Director who is responsible for developing and guiding their team. Our clinicians enjoy the full support of a treatment team and the security of W-2 employment, while our patients benefit from the full attention of a robust clinical organization.

Our practice is rapidly growing, and we owe our success to a team-oriented culture that puts people first. As a new provider, expect to feel loved, appreciated, and supported in a way that’s truly unique to WellQor.

How You’ll Make an Impact:

At WellQor, you’ll help your clients overcome mental health challenges, forge better relationships, and be the best versions of themselves. You’ll make a real, tangible difference and feel good about the way you bring joy to the lives of others.

And you won’t have to do it alone. We follow a care-team treatment model, which means clinicians are assigned to teams which they can connect with and consult for advice, institutional knowledge, and continued feedback to help advance you in your career.

In this role you’ll get to:
  • Develop meaningful relationships with patients via tele-therapy.
  • Define your own availability, make your own schedules, and work according to your lifestyle. Some WellQor therapists work part time, and others carry full caseloads. Whatever your lifestyle demands, we’re here to meet you where you’re at.
  • Consult with your clinical director and your regional team on a regular basis for support and feedback.
  • Connect with therapists across the country using our Clinician Connect platform.
  • Allow WellQor to handle credentialing, billing, client intake, marketing, customer service, and other administrative services on your behalf.
  • Participate in company events and receive opportunities for CEU sponsorship.
What we’re looking for:
  • Friendly, professional, and compassionate people.
  • LPCC, LMFT, LMHC, LICSW, LCSW, LCP or equivalent licensed to practice independently.
  • Experience using electronic health record (EHR) systems to document sessions.
  • Comfort using technology in everyday work.
  • A willingness to learn.
What we offer:
  • Medical, dental, and 401k benefits.
  • Competitive compensation paid by the billable hour.
  • PTO and paid holidays.
  • Connection to responsive, professional, and empathetic coworkers and leadership.
  • Schedule flexibility.
  • Full administrative support.
  • An EHR system customized to be easy to use.

Compensation details:

WellQor Therapists are paid by the billable hour and have the flexibility to take on the caseload that they’re interested in carrying at any given time. Hourly compensation is competitive and varies based on license level, relevant experience, and caseload requirements.
