JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

This position in the Department of Meteorology at Penn State supports a scientific researcher to work on projects at the intersection of tropical cyclones and large-scale climate. The successful candidate will:

  • Clean, organize, and manage Earth system model data for internal analysis and public release
  • Run idealized geophysical models to better understand the upscale impacts of tropical cyclones on the general circulation of the Earth
  • Apply scientific theory and literature to physically interpret model simulation output
  • Write and contribute to peer-reviewed scientific publications
  • Develop, document, and maintain clean, well-organized code for data processing and analysis workflows


Ideal candidates will have an M.S. degree (or higher) and prior experience with Python, the Community Atmosphere Model, and working with gridded weather and climate data in NetCDF formats, along with strong scientific communication skills.
