Job description

MICHAEL BAKER IN ALASKA

Michael Baker's first office in Alaska opened in 1942. Since then, we have played a key role in some of Alaska's most renowned infrastructure projects, including groundbreaking projects on the North Slope and the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System. We continue to focus on cold regions engineering-pipelines, transportation, hydrology, geotechnical, specialty professional services, permitting and regulatory compliance, and GIS and LiDAR mapping. 

DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a highly motivated engineer to join our transportation team in either our Fairbanks or Anchorage offices. We will help you continue to grow and develop your engineering skills and profession through exposure to a variety of civil design projects including highways, airports, building sites, and oil and gas infrastructure. We also offer opportunities for fieldwork experience in design data collection and construction contract administration.

As a part of our Civil Engineering team, the Transportation Civil Engineer will perform a lead role for tasks including site review, field documentation, data collection, data organization, data analysis, preparation of technical reports, and production of bid-ready plans, specifications and construction cost estimates. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work under the supervision of Senior Engineers and Project Managers; develop and professionally seal plans, specifications, and estimate for civil highway, aviation, and/or site engineering development projects with extensive use of AutoCAD/Civil 3D and ArcGIS software. Guide and mentor junior staff in related work.
  • Prepare studies, design analysis, construction documents, drawings, maps, reports, and supporting documentation

  • Perform occasional site visits, potentially to remote locations (occasional travel to job sites may be required)
  • Perform activities in support of public involvement or environmental requirements for assigned projects
  • Assist project managers with tracking and maintaining project schedules and budgets
  • Attend training to develop and maintain skills, attend seminars, review professional publications, and in-house systems/management training

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with coursework relevant to working in the transportation engineering field
  • Licensed Professional Civil Engineer in Alaska
  • Minimum 8 years of civil engineering experience (roads, highways, utilities, structures or site design)
  • Extensive experience with AutoCAD/Civil 3D (preferred) or other civil design software
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong degree of self-initiative, and desire to learn and apply engineering skills to develop creative designs that address complex problems
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Experience preferred with Bluebeam Revu. Experience with ArcGIS is a plus.

COMPENSATION

The salary range for this position is $111,655-$170,864. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.  Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
