Job description

At WestLand Engineering and Environmental Services, a Trinity Consultants team, we are driven by purpose, innovation, and a shared commitment to the work that we do. As part of Trinity Consultants' Water and Ecology division, we tackle complex environmental challenges, blending expertise in environmental consulting, wetlands, cultural resources, GIS, landscape architecture, and engineering.

WestLand empowers our teams to develop their unique skills while fostering career growth within a company that is large enough to offer diverse opportunities yet agile enough to value individual contributions. Collaboration is at the heart of what we do-our professionals work together on meaningful and impactful projects, delivering solutions that help clients navigate regulatory complexities and see positive project outcomes. Make a difference with us at WestLand!

WestLand is seeking On-Call Archaeology Field Technicians to join our growing Cultural Resources team in Utah. Our crews can be found working throughout the Great Basin, Colorado Plateau, and Southwest on CRM projects for private and public sector clients. The successful candidates will be part of a team that supports archaeological compliance projects across Utah and neighboring states. For out-of-town work that includes overnight, or longer duration stays, per diem and single-occupancy hotel rooms may be provided where possible. For remote projects where lodging is not available, an additional camping per diem may be provided. This position will be based out of WestLand's Salt Lake City office.

What will I be doing?

  • Under the direction of a field supervisor, conducting archaeological field work to support project needs, including survey and documentation, testing, and monitoring tasks.
  • Under the direction of a field supervisor, documenting and photographing artifacts, features and other archaeological and historical data, including collecting GPS data, mapping archaeological features and sites, drawing scaled profiles and plans, and maintaining paperwork, notes, and records.
  • Support reporting tasks, including compiling record search and project data, drafting tables, contributing to site record production, as assigned.

What qualifications are required for this role?

  • Associate's degree, or higher, in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field. Prior on-the-job archeology experience or the successful completion of a field school may substitute for educational requirements.
  • Previous field or lab experience in archaeology preferred.
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork for long hours in desert, forest, and mountainous environments featuring extreme temperatures, rough terrain, and potential high altitudes.
  • Ability to carry up to 60 pounds of equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to bend and kneel for long periods of time.
  • Ability to travel out of town for work throughout Utah and surrounding states, often on short notice and for extended periods (paid drive time, per diem and hotel provided).
  • Ability to work as a member of a cohesive team.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and creative environment.

The salary range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00 per hour.

What does WestLand offer you?

  • Comprehensive benefits package: 9 paid holidays, healthcare benefits, PTO, and 401k matching for full-time employees. Flexible work schedules and remote/hybrid possibilities for most roles.
  • Multidisciplinary environment: Unique, creative, and challenging projects where you can develop your vision of clientele and work with industry leaders daily.
  • Success-oriented environment: Two-way mentorship, financial incentives to publish work, tuition reimbursement, and a career-path structure to help you reach the next steps in your career.
  • Collaborative work environment: Clear and frequent communication, shared information and ideas across teams, and a welcoming atmosphere for everyone.
