What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Product Photographer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote Product Photographer, you need proficiency in digital photography, lighting techniques, and image editing, often supported by a portfolio and experience with e-commerce or advertising clients. Mastery of tools like DSLR or mirrorless cameras, Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and remote collaboration platforms is essential. Strong attention to detail, creativity, and effective communication with clients make a candidate stand out. These skills ensure high-quality, appealing product images that drive online sales and meet client expectations in a remote work environment.

Remote Product Photography focuses on capturing high-quality images of products for various marketing needs, often requiring studio setup skills. Remote E-commerce Photography emphasizes creating images optimized for online sales platforms, combining photography with knowledge of e-commerce standards. While both roles involve product images, Remote E-commerce Photography is more tailored to online retail environments and platform specifications.

What is remote product photography?

Remote product photography is a service where professional photographers capture high-quality images of products without the client needing to be physically present. Clients typically ship their products to the photographer's studio, communicate their requirements online, and review proofs digitally. This allows businesses to obtain professional product photos for e-commerce, marketing, or catalogs regardless of their location, saving time and travel costs. The process is especially popular for online retailers and brands looking to streamline their content creation.

What are some common challenges faced in a remote product photography role, and how can they be overcome?

One common challenge in remote product photography is ensuring consistent lighting and image quality without access to a professional studio. To overcome this, photographers often invest in portable lighting kits and backdrops to create a controlled environment at home. Communicating effectively with clients about product details and expectations is also crucial, as remote work limits opportunities for in-person collaboration. Additionally, managing file transfers and feedback cycles efficiently helps maintain project timelines and ensures client satisfaction.

Job description

Millions of consumers turn to Yelp every day to discover businesses, read reviews, ask questions, and share experiences. The Content Platform team is responsible for the full lifecycle of user-generated content on Yelp: reviews, photos, videos, Q&A, and emerging contribution types. This is the engine that powers Yelp's consumer trust and marketplace value.

We are looking for a senior product leader to own a portfolio of contribution types at different stages of maturity. The primary focus is incubating new content products that keep Yelp's contributor pipeline fresh and growing. You will also own established contribution products, driving sustained growth through a deep understanding of user behavior and experimentation rigor.

You'll work across Yelp's consumer, business, and platform teams to ensure your products, whether new or mature, integrate into the broader ecosystem and drive impact beyond your immediate surface area. This role blends startup-speed innovation with the discipline of growing and sustaining products at scale.

This opportunity is fully remote and does not require you to be located in any particular state within the US. We welcome applicants from throughout the US. We’d love to have you apply, even if you don’t feel you meet every single requirement in this posting. At Yelp, we’re looking for great people, not just those who simply check off all the boxes.

  • Set a long term vision for new contribution concepts, guiding them from ideation through launch applying proven product development practices.
  • Own and grow existing contribution products by identifying optimization opportunities, running experiments, and improving core metrics.
  • Define and communicate a product strategy that connects your portfolio (new and mature products) to Yelp's ecosystem-level metrics such as content volume, engagement, and marketplace health.
  • Build executive alignment on new bets by framing opportunities with data, clear hypotheses, and measurable success criteria.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment with peer teams who own consumer surfaces, ensuring your products are adopted and surfaced across Yelp.
  • Conduct competitive analysis and user research to inform product direction and keep the contribution experience compelling.
  • Partner with engineering, design, analytics, and research to ship high-quality products at speed.

  • Ideally 8 years of experience in senior product roles. Marketplace experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to take a product from zero to one: identifying an opportunity, validating it, shipping it, and scaling it.
  • Experience balancing a portfolio of products at different maturity stages, from early-stage incubation to growth optimization.
  • Strong analytical skills. You use data to frame decisions, define success metrics, and make tradeoff recommendations.
  • Comfort with ambiguity. You thrive in unstructured problem spaces and create clarity for your team and stakeholders.
  • Excellent executive communication. You can distill complex product decisions into clear narratives that drive alignment at the leadership level.
  • Understanding of how individual products impact broader platform and marketplace metrics, with the ability to drive alignment across teams you don't directly own.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent work experience is required

  • There are a variety of factors that go into determining a salary range, including but not limited to external market benchmark data, geographic location, and years of experience. Based on the anticipated level of experience we are seeking, we expect the compensation range for this role to be between $207,000 and $326,000. You may also be offered a bonus, restricted stock units, and benefits.
  • This opportunity has the option to be fully remote in all locations across the US.
  • You can find more information about Yelp's five star benefits here!
