What is remote product lifecycle management?

Remote product lifecycle management (PLM) is the process of overseeing a product's journey from initial concept through design, manufacturing, and end-of-life, using digital tools and cloud-based platforms to coordinate work across distributed teams. This approach enables companies to collaborate on product development, manage data, and streamline workflows without requiring all stakeholders to be in the same physical location. Remote PLM helps organizations reduce costs, accelerate time-to-market, and improve product quality by enabling real-time communication and centralized information management.

How does a remote product lifecycle management specialist typically collaborate with cross-functional teams across different time zones?

Remote PLM specialists frequently work with engineering, marketing, supply chain, and quality assurance teams located around the globe. To ensure smooth collaboration, they rely on digital PLM platforms, regular video meetings, and shared documentation tools to track project progress and resolve issues efficiently. Time zone differences can be a challenge, so effective communication, flexibility with meeting times, and clear documentation are essential. Regular check-ins and transparent workflows help maintain alignment and keep product development on schedule.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote product lifecycle management professional, and why are they important?

To thrive in Remote Product Lifecycle Management, you need strong analytical abilities, project management expertise, and a solid understanding of product development processes, typically supported by a relevant degree in engineering or business. Familiarity with PLM software such as Siemens Teamcenter, PTC Windchill, or Dassault Systèmes ENOVIA, as well as certification in PLM methodologies, is highly valued. Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills are essential for coordinating with distributed teams and driving product success remotely. These competencies ensure seamless product development, efficient cross-functional teamwork, and effective management of a product’s lifecycle from concept to retirement.

Job description

Hi, weareecobee.

ecobee introduced the world's first smart Wi-Fi thermostat to help millions of consumers save money, conserve energy, and bring home automation into their lives. That was just the beginning. We continue our pursuit to create technology that brings peace of mind into the home and allows people to focus on the moments that matter most. We take pride in making a meaningful difference to the environment, all while being part of the exciting, connected home revolution.

In 2021, ecobee became a subsidiary of Generac Power Systems. Generac introduced the first affordable backup generator and later created the category of automatic home standby generator. The company is committed to sustainable, cleaner energy products poised to revolutionize the 21st century electrical grid. Together, we take pride in making a meaningful difference to the environment.

Why we love to do whatwe do:

We're helping build the world of tomorrow with solutions that improve everyday life while making a positive impact onthe planet. Ourproducts and serviceswork in harmonytoprovide comfort, efficiency, and peace of mind for millions of homes and businesses. While we're proud of what we've done so far, there's still a lot we can do-and you can be part of it.

Join our extraordinary team.

We're a rapidly growing global tech company headquartered in Canada, in the heart of downtown Toronto, with an office in Leeds, UK, and remote ecopeeps in the US. We get to work with some of North America and UK's leading professionals. Our colleagues are proud to bring their authentic selves to work, confident that what we do is grounded in a greater purpose. We're always looking for curious, talented, and passionate people to join our team.

This position is a full-time, 12-month contract covering for a parental leave.

Who You'll be Joining:

Our hive, headquartered in Toronto, is looking for a Senior Product Manager to help lead the evolution of ecobee's Smart Security business - shaping how our devices and services come together to deliver a seamless, high-value customer experience. Our Smart Security business is building a holistic home monitoring portfolio: doorbells, cameras, sensors, and security services and features (including professional monitoring) that are powered by a scalable platform and ecosystem.

You will bring deep experience in building and shipping hardware products, alongside a strong understanding of how those devices power differentiated service experiences. You'll partner closely with Hardware Engineering, Firmware, Mobile, Backend, Design, Data, and go-to-market teams to define and deliver integrated solutions that drive both customer value and business outcomes - especially across activation, engagement, and subscription growth.

You'll operate as a senior product leader - owning complex, cross-functional problem spaces, setting direction across devices and services, and driving clarity in ambiguous, high-stakes decisions. This role sits at the intersection of physical products and digital experiences, requiring strong systems thinking and the ability to connect technical capabilities to customer and commercial impact.

At ecobee, Product Managers are expected to operate as builders, storytellers, and stewards of the business: we stay deeply connected to customer needs and delivery realities, we clarify and communicate the value of what we're building, and we take ownership for outcomes over the full product lifecycle.

[For Toronto/GTA Candidates only] This role follows a hybrid schedule, with in-office work required on Wednesdays and Thursdays to support collaboration, and flexibility to work remotely for the remainder of the week.

How You'll Make an Impact:

  • Own and execute product initiatives focused on service growth and customer experience, including onboarding, conversion, engagement, and retention.

  • Contribute to the development of integrated device + service experiences, ensuring hardware capabilities are effectively translated into customer value.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams (engineering, design, data, marketing) to deliver product improvements across both digital experiences and device interactions.

  • Drive product discovery efforts - conducting customer research, analyzing data, and identifying opportunities to improve the end-to-end user journey.

  • Define clear product requirements and success metrics and support delivery from concept through launch and iteration.

  • Analyze product performance and customer behavior to identify insights, prioritize opportunities, and inform roadmap decisions.

  • Support go-to-market efforts, including feature launches, messaging, and experimentation to improve funnel performance.

  • Collaborate closely with device teams to understand constraints and opportunities and help shape cohesive cross-product experiences.

  • Bring a strong ownership mindset - proactively identifying problems, proposing solutions, and driving execution.

  • Embody ecobee's expectation that PMs are builders, storytellers, and stewards - staying close to delivery, clarifying product value and narrative, and owning end-to-end outcomes across the lifecycle.

What You'll Bring to the Table:

  • 4-7+ years of product management experience, with a strong foundation in digital products, services, or growth-focused roles.

  • Demonstrated ability (or strong interest) in working across both services and devices, with curiosity to learn hardware-driven product development.

  • Proven experience designing, launching, or evolving subscription models, including pricing, packaging, entitlements, migrations, renewals, and lifecycle management.

  • Strong cross functional leadership skills, with experience partnering closely with Engineering, Design, Legal, Finance, Data, and Customer Support.

  • Demonstrated ability to make trade offs between customer value, revenue, compliance, and operational complexity in subscription or services contexts.

  • Strong analytical skills - comfortable using data to inform decisions and measure success.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment with evolving priorities.

  • Growth mindset - eager to learn, take on new challenges, and expand scope over time as the business evolves.

  • Bonus: Experience working on hardware or device-integrated products (e.g., IoT, consumer electronics, connected devices).

Just so you know: The hired candidate will be required to complete a background check.
