Job description

Director of Product Commercialization is a new role at Halo Collar. This person will be responsible for bringing new products and services to market, owning the end-to-end process from product development through post-launch review. You will coordinate cross-functional teams and external vendors, and build the go-to-market strategies and operational infrastructure that make launches successful.

Reporting to the VP, Marketing Operations, you will serve as the connective tissue between Brand, Merchandising, Planning, Product Development, Operations, Mobile App, and Marketing. This is an opportunity to join a high-growth brand at a pivotal moment in its operational transformation, building the systems this function needs largely from scratch.

Responsibilities

Cross-Functional Orchestration

  • Serve as the central coordination point across internal teams and external partners, including Engineering, Product Development, Brand, Marketing, Packaging, Operations, Supply Chain, Retail, Legal, Planning, and overseas manufacturing partners
  • Build trusted working relationships across every function, with the discipline to keep a large, distributed team aligned across time zones, technical disciplines, and competing priorities
  • Balance decisiveness with judgment on when to decide independently versus escalate, align, or bring others into the decision
  • Translate technical engineering constraints into business and marketing impacts, and vice versa
  • Lead regular cross-functional syncs and deliver structured status updates to the team and leadership

Portfolio and Program Visibility

  • Manage a concurrent portfolio of product tracks at different stages — new products, line extensions, product changes, and accessories — each with distinct timelines and dependencies
  • Own portfolio-level visibility in Asana, maintaining initiative-level status
  • Deliver structured status reporting on a regular cadence covering where each track stands, what is at risk, and what decisions are needed

Product Development Coordination

  • Own the sample and approval review calendar for every active product track: shipping schedule, reviewers, go/no-go criteria, and what happens when samples fail
  • Understand hardware development stage gates well enough to hold the line on what must be true before downstream marketing and GTM gates can open
  • Serve alongside Operations as liaison to overseas manufacturing partners on production milestones, tooling schedules, quality control checkpoints, and packaging timelines
  • Coordinate firmware scope and app readiness as parallel launch dependencies with the digital product team, so software tracks are gated and visible alongside hardware milestones

Launch Planning and Execution

  • Own end-to-end GTM execution for every new product launch, from product development through retail shelf placement, acquisition marketing, and post-launch review
  • Build and maintain cross-functional launch plans with clear milestones, work stream owners, and handoffs
  • Manage dual-channel launches where DTC/eCommerce and retail timelines run in parallel
  • Work with Retail to define retail readiness as a distinct deliverable: planogram specs, sell-in packets, retailer-specific packaging compliance, and submission timelines
  • Build the master launch timeline across teams and vendor partners, surfacing risk before it reaches the critical path
  • Run post-launch retrospectives and feed learnings into future launch planning

Change Control and Regulatory Compliance

  • Own the change control process post style-freeze: define what triggers a formal change request, who approves it, and what the downstream impact assessment covers - protecting Packaging, Retail, Marketing, and Operations from late disruption
  • Maintain visibility into certification requirements, including whether a design or supplier change requires new certification or falls under an existing approval
  • Ensure no launch ships without confirmed regulatory clearance, and own the escalation path when certification timelines are at risk
  • Build organizational discipline around change control over time, reducing the frequency and cost of post-freeze changes across the portfolio

Launch Cost Visibility

  • Maintain a current per-SKU cost model for every launch — material, tooling amortization, freight, duties, and fulfillment fees against margin targets — and keep it current through every design or supplier change
  • Partner with Planning and Operations to flag margin risk before launch decisions are made

Required Qualifications
  • 7-10 years of cross-functional product launch or commercialization experience, with a track record of bringing physical or hardware/software products to market at speed across multiple departments simultaneously
  • Comfortable in a growth-phase scaling environment where systems are being built alongside the business, including sequencing early wins to create momentum for harder changes
  • Experience owning launch timelines across engineering, supply chain, and go-to-market concurrently
  • Consumer hardware, pet tech, wearables, or connected device background strongly preferred; understands what makes a hardware-software-subscription product fundamentally different from a pure software launch
  • Retail channel experience with PetSmart, Amazon, and specialty retail programs, including lead times, compliance requirements, submission processes, and the difference between DTC and retail launch calendars
  • Willingness to work across multiple time zones, including overseas (Asia)
  • Enough regulatory literacy to manage certification timelines as a launch risk, including recognizing when a supplier or design change triggers new certification
  • Strong program management instincts: plans that hold, and clear judgment on when to push versus when to pause
  • Able to get clear answers from engineers, creatives, ops managers, and retail buyers in the same week
  • Proficiency in Asana and Jira, or a comparable project management platform, with experience maintaining initiative-level visibility for a full leadership team
Preferred Qualifications
  • Background spanning both a startup scaling phase and a more established operational environment, with experience building process rather than just inheriting it
  • Experience coordinating with contract manufacturers and 3PL fulfillment partners on launch timing and inventory readiness
  • Familiarity with supplier changes, ECNs, and BOM revisions interact with assembly timelines

Perks of the Pack
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision plans
  • Company-paid Long-Term Disability
  • 401k with Company Match
  • Paid Time Off
  • Free Halo gear + Product Testing Opportunities
  • Work remotely from anywhere in the U.S.
  • Be part of a mission-driven, dog-loving team

We provide competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base salary, incentives, and benefits. The base salary range for this role is $140,000 - $160,000. Final compensation depends on experience, skills, and qualifications.
