What is remote product design?

Remote product design is the process of creating and developing new products or improving existing ones while working from a location outside of a traditional office setting. Designers collaborate virtually using digital tools to ideate, prototype, test, and iterate on product concepts. This approach allows teams to work together from different geographic locations, often improving flexibility and access to diverse talent. Remote product designers typically use communication platforms, cloud-based design software, and project management tools to facilitate their workflow.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote product designer?

To thrive as a Remote Product Designer, you need expertise in UX/UI principles, a strong portfolio, and proficiency in design thinking and user research, typically supported by a degree in design or related field. Familiarity with tools like Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, and collaboration platforms such as Miro or Slack is crucial. Exceptional communication, time management, and problem-solving skills help you stand out in remote, cross-functional teams. These abilities enable the creation of user-centered products while maintaining efficient collaboration and productivity from a distance.

How do remote product designers effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams?

Remote product designers typically use a combination of digital collaboration tools, such as Figma, Slack, and Zoom, to work closely with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders. Regular virtual meetings, clear documentation, and shared design systems help ensure everyone stays aligned on goals and project progress. Building strong communication habits and proactively seeking feedback are key to overcoming the challenges of distance and time zones in a remote setup. This collaborative approach fosters a sense of teamwork and helps remote designers contribute effectively to the product development process.

Job description

About Us

Health is the most important thing in life, and the American healthcare system is completely broken - poor outcomes, high cost, bad patient experience. We're building a new system from the ground up.

Our mission is to improve people's health by making it easy to live a healthy lifestyle.

Nourish is the country's largest dietitian-led metabolic health clinic. We're an AI-native digital health system matching patients with 10,000+ Registered Dietitians, physicians, medications, lab testing, and AI agents to deliver insurance-covered care across all 50 states. Founded four years ago, we've completed millions of appointments, tripled year-over-year, and partnered with health plans covering 200M+ Americans across 250+ health systems.

In 2026 we raised a $100M Series C, bringing total funding to $215M. The round was led by Menlo Ventures, with participation from Thrive Capital, Index Ventures, J.P. Morgan Growth Equity Partners, Maverick Ventures, Y Combinator, BoxGroup, Atomico, Daybreak, and Operator Partners.

Learn more about our Series C here: Nourish Blog, Bloomberg, Fierce Healthcare, Digital Native, The Pulse Podcast.

This is not a job for everyone. We hold an extremely high bar because we believe talent density is our biggest competitive advantage. We're looking for people who actively choose hard, ambiguous problems, who run toward unglamorous work, give and receive candid feedback, and bring relentless resilience without the ego. Our work is important, but we are not self-important. We do this because we're solving one of the hardest problems in the world, and the problem matters. If that's you, we disproportionately reward it.

About the Role:

At Nourish, we believe the quality of a product is a massive differentiator that separates great products and services from average ones. As the company scales rapidly and builds new products, we are looking for a Staff Product Designer who can raise the bar and help integrate our new offerings in a seamless way.

In this role, you'll own projects that will set the strategic foundation for how Nourish's product offerings expand and see the projects through from conception to execution and implementation. You'll use your expertise in design, user psychology, and data-driven decision-making to create intuitive experiences and raise the bar for craft.
This person will join our small design team and report directly to our Head of Design. We are a team that cares about our work, but we try not to take ourselves too seriously. We believe deeply that empathy, trust, and collaboration are what drive the best outcomes and that work can feel like play!

This role is full-time and can be based in either NYC (hybrid, in-office 3-4 days per week) or SF (remote until we open our SF office).

Check out EPD at Nourish and Design Values to learn more about our team!

Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish best practices for information architecture. As Nourish has expanded our product offerings, ensuring that the user experience stays consistent has become more challenging. You will be driving forward the execution and vision of what it looks like to build an integrated preventative health product offering.
  • Design best-in-class experiences for all our users. Your work will not be limited to one area of our platform but instead will span our patient, provider, and growth products. You will iterate on existing features, create net new features, and continue to test both.
  • Help drive qualitative user research. You'll build prototypes, conduct interviews, and create surveys to test hypotheses about designs and products.
  • Grow and maintain our design system. You'll help the team operate efficiently and keep our quality consistent by helping manage our component library.
  • Help build a design culture at Nourish. We want to be a company that is known for quality and craft, and is willing to go the extra mile to make our patient and provider experiences excellent. No detail is too small, and no journey is under-considered.
We'd love to hear from you if:
  • You have 10+ years experience designing compelling digital products.
  • You are deeply customer- and craft-oriented. You care about understanding real user needs and translating them into clear, thoughtful product experiences. You have strong design fundamentals and know how to apply them in messy, real-world product environments.
  • You are a builder. You like taking ideas from 0 to 1 and then improving them relentlessly. Shipping matters to you. You're comfortable iterating quickly and learning as you go.
  • You take ownership and push work forward. This is not an environment where designers wait for perfect briefs or fully defined problems. You're comfortable working through ambiguity, forming strong opinions, and helping drive product decisions alongside product and engineering.
  • You communicate with a high signal‑to‑noise ratio. We value clear thinking and efficient communication. Whether written or verbal, you can explain ideas quickly and directly. You don't rely on long explanations or filler to make a point.
  • You do your own stunts. No task is beneath you if it helps move the product forward. You might run user interviews, refine product copy, improve a flow, help prepare a deck, or jump into a messy problem that doesn't have an obvious owner.
  • You're comfortable in a demanding environment. We move quickly and hold a high bar for quality and accountability. There is little room to coast here. People who thrive on this team tend to have grit, curiosity, and a pragmatic, roll‑up‑your‑sleeves attitude.
  • You understand that meaningful work sometimes requires extra effort. Startups have moments where the work extends beyond a tidy 9–5 schedule. If you're the kind of person who cares deeply about the outcome and is willing to lean in when the work demands it, you'll likely feel at home here.
  • You're motivated by impact. The problems we're working on—nutrition, chronic disease, and preventative healthcare—are meaningful and complex. The right person for this role is energized by the opportunity to help build something that materially improves people's lives.
